Disgusted!!

I don't like to state the obvious, but we all bang on about undersize fish and people (I won't call them anglers) acting irresponsibly. The problem is tossers like that don't belong to this sort of forum, so the message doesn't get across. Like Luke says, these idiots become quite aggressive when you point out the error of their ways, and that sums them up really. The sort of people doing this are (Sweeping statement coming up) generally the dregs of society who have no values, moral, social or otherwise. Even them getting caught by the authorities wouldn't stop them (As I see all too often).

There's only one answer.......a Ford Tranny, some balaclavas and a few pick axe handles. Did I just say that?

Sorry, but I totally disagree! Basically, they're not idiots, and they become aggressive because they don't understand. What these people need is EDUCATING. They think what they're doing is fine because they haven't been educated on the importance of conserving immature fish. They obviously enjoy fishing like the rest of us, but if they only knew how much more they would enjoy it, just by preserving fish stocks. I know that a small minority are just ignorant buggers, but I think you'll find these people in all walks of life, and will never change their ways.

No I have to disagree. A person with 2 brain cells knows whether a fish is small or not, and likewise, unless they don't have a TV or the ability to read a paper, they know about the fish stock levels. I like the idea of signs being put up around the harbours etc, but how much educating do people need? These people know what they are doing is wrong, but don't give a toss. As long as they are alright, is all that matters. It is a sad reflection of society today, everyone is out to get what they can for themselves and stuff the rest.

Although I agree with the thought, most of these idiots wouldn't feel anything.

The only answer is to BAN all angling and give Darren and his mates some more work, plus the courts, oh and us in funding it through taxes.

Paul is right,education is the answer.
I bet if you went down to any beach in the country and asked anglers size limits not many would give you a correct answer.
Not sure how you educate anglers as a whole though?
Another thing i find amusing is the way fish are treat different.
If i was to kill a smoothhound for eating anglers would look at me in disgust and no doubt say something,on the other hand if i cought a nice big cod and banged it on the head it would be expected.
Now i know which one in now the most common fish ,and the cod which if any size is probably a egg bearing female.

Hitting an undersize fish on the head is a terrible thing in your book (which I agree, if you know better!), but put someone in the back of a van, don your balaclava (WHY A BALACLAVA?), and then go to work on them with a pick axe handle!! ...-hitting a fish is BAD..- hitting another person with a pick axe handle is FINE...!!! you need to wake up and smell the coffee Mr. with comments like that, they're not the idiots, are they?

What you have to remember is that people become excited if they catch a fish, and want, a trophy if ya like. So they keep the fish! I don't condone it, in fact I promote conservation, and was one of the pioneers of measure and release matches in the north east, no one liked the idea, but I kept pushing it. Now look at matches, I would say 90% are catch and release. You have to keep telling people, and educating them, until eventually they will feel obliged to put under size fish back. It's the only way.

Going dressed like a thug and hitting people with pick axe handles, well all I can say is that angling is better off without the likes of that.

It obviously fell flat, and I apologise if I've upset you. Do you really think I advocate that sort of behaviour, with the job I do. (The stories you may have heard about the Old Bill are not true)
