Bait problem!

Is it best to leav your lug and rag worm rapped in the newspaper after you have borght it from the tackle shop?

Ive seen people keep lug worms in 2 inch of water?
And rag worm after afew hours seem to cut each other in half, It is best to put them in bait boxes?

Re: Bait problem!

i have tried fisning the best way as well
i have found a bait box or tub or bucket is better than news paper
i also saw in a recent fishing mag that a top match angler had all his worms (white rag, rag and lug) in water apart from the madies

Re: Bait problem!

I normally keep my lug worms in a tray with just enough water to cover them over...not to much! normaly try and change it every day but i dont keep them for long so not sure what the outcome would be if say i done this over a four five day period!

if you talking king rag...not sure how they come packed your way but i keep mine in sea peet! ....they keep for ages in the stuff just like you say you just have to keep an eye on em and check you take the split gutted or dead ones out! try and keep a layer of old news paper under the peet and spray a lil fresh sea water over em to dampen them a bit but not drench em!

if your talking about white rag then again store in water...not to deep in tray and try to take the injured or dead out every day and regular water changes are good!

Redag or maddies i keep in clumps of damp weed! not soaking but just enough to keep the worms damp! just dip the weed in fresh sea water every other day to give it a rinse and wring it out and take damaged or dead worms out and you could probably keep em for quite some time!!

all stored in a fridge not set to cold!

hope some of that is helpfull to ya.....but there are millions of different views on this so good luck with what ever route you decide to take

Ollie.

Re: Bait problem!

Maybe i've taken that post the wrong way...lol

yer i try and keep my baits in trays with damp newspaper layered over the bottom to keep them the bait damp!! for the kings i would suggest keeping them in trays once again but with some see peet!

i think you always get the problem with kings breaking in half and that....the only thing you can do there is keep an eye on em and use them first!

Wink Re: Bait problem!

Thanks FlyingFox. Great bit of advice mate.

The advice i was seeking was just keeping the bait fresh in the beach. Ive seen some people with water in the bucket with the Lug worms in there too. Is it stop them drying out?

Re: Bait problem!

yer to keep them from drying out and to stop em heating up and blowing.....but like i tend to do keeping them ontop of damp newspaper and out of the sun does the trick

Re: Bait problem!

Well with rag if m going to store them for a bit I will roll them in news paper individualy

i.e put rag on paper then roll the paper a bit then put another rag in and roll and so on .This seems to help keep them from cuting each other into pieces .Only takes a few minutes

just my two cents
