Filleting Your Catch

Hi folks,

Having been schooled by John Marshal, in the proper way to fillet fish, I have now become quite good at it.

However, I have just been told that to keep the flesh white, once dispatched, the gills of the fish should be cut to let the fish bleed.

Any thoughts please.

Cheers

Drew

Re: Filleting Your Catch

i know with land animals you let them bleed, things like deer and stuff
i think i once heard about doing it to fish but never took much notice, has it done you any hard all these years not letting them bleed?
maybe putting them in a bucket of water after filleting them does the same thing

Hi Drew
I was lead to believe that you head and gut the fish, which lets them bleed, by the time you get back to the fist fish and fillet it and wash the fillet in salt water, it the same thing.
Forgive me if i'm wrong but that is what my grandfather told me, he is no longer with us but the fishing still goes on
