Re: Making rigs...what do i need to buy please?

Hiya charlotte

I'll try give you a few idea's

first of all myself if i was using such light weights maybe try droping the weight on your line down also...maybe 10-12 lb! i only use 12lb myself unless im going for hunds the its 20-25lb!

first of all id suggest getting some crimps...think you can get about 100 for a couple of quid! also micro beads are good same sorta price if i remember correctly...the smaller the better i find! and some varried size swivels and maybe try the gemini range of links!

If your looking to get a few of each then i would suggest purchessing from a mail order site as you'd probably get a better price

hope some of that helps

Ollie.

Re: Making rigs...what do i need to buy please?

The beads im using at the moment at the moment are micro beads and i just checked out the price and size......they are £1 for 100 beads and 2.5mm in size! you could go up to a 5mm bead but i prefure the smaller! lol to be honest each to there own id say! some will prefure bigger some smaller! i would'nt use anything else apart from crimps....you just have to be carefull not to pinch to tight as it will weaken the line thats all!

come on chaps whats your views?

Ollie.

sorry should of said before...id say one of the best mail order sites is veals if your gonna get a few bits but if your just after a few things then maybe your local shop!

i tend to go for either black or white beads i think you can you can even get clear beads....may be worth a go if you can find some

Re: Making rigs...what do i need to buy please?

I'm not sure I'd recommend using crimps with line that light, perhaps it would be as well to get something slightly heavier just for your trace.

I guess really explaining all this via postings is quite tough, I'd have thought the best thing to do would be try and meet up with a few of the Devon crew when they next have a meet, I'm sure that'd be the best way of getting up to speed. Then once you've had a day with experienced anglers, I think the answers to the questions will make more sense....

There's so much to learn (I think you forget as an experienced angler), but it's all good and all fun!!

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Making rigs...what do i need to buy please?

for general beach fishing my rig box contains
20lb amnesia
40lb amnesia
60lb trace body
70lb trace body
lots of easy oval split rings
size 1 barrel swivels
size 4 (i think barrel swivels)
gemini rig clips
cascading swivels
crimps
2.5mm beads
6mm beads
crimps
bait clips
impact sheilds
tape measure
variouse booms
booby beads
sequins
spinning bladessrd springs
totten bottom links
3 way swivelsmelting rig tube
lighter
phone wire
float stops
power gum
lots n lots of variouse hooks

this is quite a comprehensive collection of bits and bobs most of which are not needed to start with
i would recomend you get some 60lb line for the main trace body, 15-20lb for hook trace, some size 1 swivels for the top of the rig, some size 4 or smaller for conecting hook lenght to rig body, some 2.5mm beads, some crimps, some form of joining the weight on (personal preference although i find the easy oval rings good) and some size 1 aberdeen hooks (a good make like mustad)
alternativly to using crimps and beads you could use 3 way swivels
hope this helps

Re: Making rigs...what do i need to buy please?

braid direct might be a good place to get started, everything you should need
http://www.braiddirect.co.uk/catalog.php
alternativly you could go into you local tackle shop and ask them to get kitted out
