ChaosinDevon will become famous soon enough
Angry Peeler Crab prices.... another rant.

Remember this name..... Homeliegh Garden Centre...... Launceston,Cornwall.
Also has a Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge angling department, Mrs Chaos was going there today for unrelated reasons.
I asked her to inquire after Peeler Crabs for me, about mid day she phones me and informs me that she will not be buying any crabs there as they are over priced and the assistant was rude to her.!!!
They are asking £17.99 for 10 !!! thats £1.79 each......... £1.79 each !!! she said it would be cheaper to drive to Bideford and collect her own..... the assistant then advised her to...... " F'ing well go and do that then".

The most I have paid was 80 pence each, which I thought was reasonable.

Oh and before it is suggested..... yes I will be paying the assistant a visit to re-educate him in his customer relations skills.

Re: Peeler Crab prices.... another rant.

i think peeler is an over rated bait for the price which is charged for it and dont buy it because of that, i sometimes get some to try to find out what all the fuss is about
incidently when the tackle shop near me has them they are froozen, samll and £1 each!!

Re: Peeler Crab prices.... another rant.

I agree with you to some extent Ben but if your going after smuts or bigger bass at this time of year then they are a must.
Top tip stay away from the frozen ones, good for nowt but eels.

Re: Peeler Crab prices.... another rant.

I find crab is the best bait around especially if you have fresh ones. I suppose it depends on the fish you are targeting, but you can beat it for flatfish.

Re: Peeler Crab prices.... another rant.

You are right Ben and Gully.

In my not quite two year fishing career mostly in the Solent, ragworm is king by miles, I have caught about half a dozen fish on peeler crab, and I am very lucky being able to collect my own most of the time. Even the starry smoothounds I caught last year all took ragworm over the peeler that was on the same two hook rig. I don't feel fully prepared unless I have some ragworm, it is essential in the Solent.
