Thumbs up Where and how ....?

Chaps,

Not having targeted any other fish except makeral, conger and bass until last year could someone please tell me where and how you catch such fish as bream and smoothounds !

Are they off wrecks miles out or are they within reach of the inshore wrecks, and anyone know if they show around Exmouth or places near by ?

Looking to start fishing for many more species now and cannot wait for the summer !

Thanks for help.

Wink Re: Where and how ....?

Hi Tommy,

From experience Black Bream can be caught on reefs, wrecks and around drop offs from a boat. This species can be caught in Lyme Bay and also down at Porlock and Bossington. At some marks they can also be caught from the shore, but you need structure to be in with a chance. Any sizeable fish normally come from boats.

For Smoothounds these can be caught from boat or shore as well. Best areas are Aberthaw and Worms head, plus Lilstock reef, Bossington and Ivy Stones at Porlock. Specimen sized fish have come from Lilstock reef in the past, up to 19lbs! Smoothounds can also be caught from Chesil and other areas along the south coast. But anglers from that area will probably tell you more than i can, I only know of 1 secret mark that always produces on the right tides

Hope this helps....i'm off for a few sherbetts now

Re: Where and how ....?

Tommy I know a mark at Pwlldu Head on the Gower that produced black bream but for the shoals to come close enough the tides / weather have to be perfect. Big flat calm late evening tide in July would do it! They also get them in the boats just off langland - theres a big reef there (i have caught them here last summer) and sometimes from the rocks at Langland....again conditions must be perfect. Unfortunately (or maybe not!) when conditions are like this the venue is usually full of shoaling mullet which offer a huge distraction from fishing for bream! lol

As far as the smoothies go you just need to get up here for the forum meet in june or july....!
