Question Why you like to fish?

Hi everyone,

I'm college student and working on my research paper in sport fishing. So I would like to hear from all of you here why you or people in general like to fish? I certainly have my view on this, but I sure want to hear what you all here have to say on this. I would appreciate it with any response.

Thanks!!

Re: Why you like to fish?

Why do I like to fish......... Firstly, I do not consider fishing a sport, others might, but I do not.
I fish because I like the technical aspects of combining equipment, bait, tides and me to attempt to catch a fish.
I do not care if i do not catch a fish, it is the fact that I can get out in the sea air, sun and just enjoy the world.

Re: Why you like to fish?

It's a combination of factors, really, but it makes for a brilliant day out, even if you don't come home with a bucket full of fish (not that unusual, really).

BTW, these are not in any particular order:

First, it's nice to be outside in the elements. Even if it's freezing, it sure beats being couped up indoors.

Second, you get to meet loads of like-minded people, and the nature of the sport makes it a really social affair. And, I have to say, I've rarely met people out fishing who I'd term as "anti-social".

Third, I love eating fish. The fresher the better, and it's true free-range stuff. Lovely. Plus, it's as close as most of us can get to being a "hunter-gatherer", and that's kinda fun.

Fourth, it's a chance to evolve your techniques using experience and other people's tips. I really like the appliance of technology and new bits of kit are released all the time.

Fifth, it's a great reason to explore places that you wouldn't normally get, and experience great views of the sea, coupled with (when you want it), real peace and quiet that you don't normally find these days.

Sixth, I've got a bit of a reel-fetish!! Just can't seem to stop buying them - much to the annoyance of the missus!!

I guess, above all, a day out fishing NEVER feels like a wasted day.

Well, you did ask ....

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Why you like to fish?

For me its a combination of a lot of things:
The preparation the night before, buying the bait and tackle, making the rigs, chooseing the location and plan of attack.
The sunrises at dawn and the sunsets in the evening, the tiiley illuminating the rods tips in the dead of night.
A few beers with old mates
And the final result when the fish is on the plate.

Re: Why you like to fish?

Peace and quiet. A bit of time on my own or with others who understand the enjoyment of sitting by the side of the water with no stress and, very occasionally, the bonus of catching a fish!

Re: Why you like to fish?

Just love being out in the the fresh air enjoying peace and quiet - whether its on the boat or land.

Have spent this winter shore fishing for the first time and have really enjoyed it - some amazing sunsets and totally relaxing, especially after a stressful days work !

Just brilliant............
