Juniors

Im supposedly the junior representative of Teignmouth Sea Angling Society, and i am completely stumped in what i can do for the juniors in the club.

I have noticed that junior members are decreasing and I was wondering, as alot of you are juniors, what would encourage you to go fishing, and what you would like possibly to be done for you if you were in a club?

Many thanks for any suggestions, Luke

Re: Juniors

Tell me about it, when i was a junior i think there were several others in which i could compete with, nowadays its the same 1 or 2 that win a competition and a trophy at the end of the year.

When i was a junior i didnt need any incentive to go out fishing, ive been brought up on it and i thoroughly enjoy it, but nowadays i think they are more interested in computers etc

Re: Juniors

May I be so bold as to offer a suggestion.

This is what I would do............... I would go to my local paper and find a reporter who may be interested in your dilema. Ask him/her to run a piece outlining the joys of sea angling and that you will be holding an open day/tuition day.
Get the senior members to come along.... en masse....to show young people the in's and out's of angling and let them have a go.
Get a local tackle shop on board.... after all.... the juniors are their future customers.
Get onto some manufacturers and see if they will provide some stickers or last season hats/ shirts etc as freebies.
Emphasise the need for catch and release and environmental issues etc.
Take some notice boards and pin photo's on, showing the catches the club makes.
Well thats what I would do.

Re: Juniors

i think they were upset about my priorities, they wanted to "spend time together" and i wanted to go fishing, its always a tough decision but fishing always wins, lol
