A rant........ well more of a moan really.

Hello people.... yup... still alive and still seafishing.

Right.... here we go...... "Surfers" or to be more precise and reflect my mood....."BLOODY SURFERS".
Am I the only one to suffer their complete and utter inability to spot the fact that you are fishing ?? Point in case, bank holiday monday.... off we go to Crackington Haven on the North Cornish coast, arrive at 8 am.... tide is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out.... set up 4 rods on 2 tripods and proceed to feed the fish. Tide starts in..... back up the beach we go.....surf is picking up but nothing to fantastic. The sun sticks its head out from behind a cloud and before you can say "shall I check the bait?" wooooooooosh 5 surfers appear from nowhere and leap into the surf and start.... well....surfing !
Next thing I know, we have two lines all tangled up and not a word of apology.
Now I am not a complete retard and had figured that they might show up, so we fished on the far right of the cove so as to stay out of anyones way.... even though we were there before anyone else. Then just to add further entertainment to the day a family of 5 showed up with body boards. The father asked me where we were fishing ??!! and I explained what we were doing and showed him my nastiest grip weight and asked him not to step on it. He relayed this to his family, who proceeded to leap into the sea and tangle the lines for me.....aaaagggggghhhhhh.
Right....... now for a question........ I have been told, but I dont know if it is true ....there exists a bylaw that gives sea anglers right of way so to speak when shore fishing !!! anyone ever heard of this ?? I am going to try and find out. It might be a bit tricky to enforce but it would give my arguement some weight.

Hey dude,

I am not aware of any bylaws but I should be able to find out for you/us.

It does seem to me that anglers are the ones always out on a limb. My mind goes back to last year with a jogger running on the breakwater at Brixham (top wall) knocking and running into rods etc, during a forum meet. Then there are the speedboats and other boats etc being driven close to the outside of harbour walls and now we have surfers and Mr and Mrs Inflatable!!!

Seems to me that we are the ones being told through various media to be mindful of others whilst we fish, and yet we seem to be bottom of the pecking order, when it's the other way round.

Kiwi.

I had two boat owners off Bude reprimanded by the harbour authorities..... there is a 5 knot speed limit in the harbour and these jerks where racing !! Mate lost his rod to one !!!

Kiwi is right ,i once had a zziplex dream machine pulled in by a sailing boat,i was only young at the time and had saved for ages for that rod,i wasnt to chuffed.
Anyway i got the name of the boat and managed to ring up the owner,i was amazed when he bllocked me for entangling my line around his prop.
God how i wanted to find that boat and scupper it

Talking Re: A rant........ well more of a moan really.

i have had the same problem fishing the far end of berry head, i was feathering and some canoeists came across where i was fishing and went round and round for a little while, they eventually left and i carried on, only for them to come back round again, they sped around hairy ledge in a tight bunch and i cast behind them by about 15 metres, enough room to drive a herd of elephants through....
...anyway, the leader brought his canoe up to the rocks and asked what the hell i thought i was doing, i said i was fishing and he told me that i shouldnt be fishing there and that none else had fished there before and that it was a private mini cove for canoeists, to which i called him a lying inbred f*ckwit and told him to shove off and let me fish, do know what he did....
...he cut my line with his teeth, threw my rigs (x2) in the water and told me that if he saw me there again he would do the same to me.

the next bit i regret a bit, i packed up as if to leave then when he started to leave, i got a large stone and lobbed it towards his canoe, not meaning to hit but for it to come close and warn him off, as i turned round i heard a dull thud and the stone had hit the back of his canoe, he wasnt best pleased, so as he raced for shore, i grabbed my stuff and ran for cover.
suffice to say, he didnt find me and i went and set up on the platform and continued my fishing in peace.....

some people are very nice to us as a whole, asking how we are doing and everything but other people try to blame us if there stupid dog is off its lead and eats our bait or find abit of fihsing tackle on the beach which wasnt me anyway

i think i sometimes get sterio typed as being a young person so must go round ruining stuff for every1, i think i am anything but the typical teenager

Re: A rant........ well more of a moan really.

Many people dont really care about the fisherman or property.

Ive been fishing at hopes nose and seen a boat fishing within casting distance!!!I was not happy so i cast right by the boat!!! He soon moved after a few gestures where exchanged!!

Re: A rant........ well more of a moan really.

oh god dont start me on canoeists..... had a skin full of them aswell..... and if someone cut my lines.... it would be the last act as a living person they'd perform.
As for you Ben, depleted fish stocks......ha they need to stick around.... I rarely catch a fish..... so how does that work. ??
As for being a stereotypical teenager.... rubbish.... you are doing something with your time... not mugging old women (young ones are more fun)....you stick at it mate.
