Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

Morning all,

Long time - no post - apologies for lack of activity, but as explained to my poor overworked Species partner FishyPaul on Saturday, it's been the strain of trying to get 2 businesses off the ground in one go!

Anyway, from what I hear, the sea fishing round our way has been, how do you say? Cack!

However, it's now that time of year when it should all start to pick up (I hope) as our silvery friend Billy the Bass makes his presence felt again... Hoorah!!

So, I thought before I get too entangled in wedding preparations (coming up in July too! ), I should get some fishing in. So, tonight it's time to scrape the salt off my poor 65s and start tying some traces!!

So, where to go? Anybody been lately any where around the Kent/Sussex coastline? I'm thinking maybe Sandgate Castle or Prince of Wales pier in Dover? Maybe Hastings or Eastbourne, though? All advice welcome.

What do you guys reckon?

CheerZ,
JB.

Re: Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

welcome back john,you've been missed.
fishing is indeed looking up,i have heard that the peelers are now in their usual hauts and billy the bass has been out searching for them.
have heard there has been some good catches around ramsgate, nero's was the place mentioned,
have also heard that the breakwater is getting better, that usually means that the addy will also be improving,

as an aside, a friend who runs his own charter boat told me that there are excellent catches of thornies at the moment, perhaps a visit to sheppey may be in order, they can be caught from the beach up there can't they ?

nice to see you back john, don't forget to take your camera with you,
we need the points

Re: Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

Cheers chaps! Nice to be back ... not sure my posts will be quite as numerous as they were before, but I'll do my best!

Interesting stuff, Paul, Thornies from the beach, eh? Sounds like it's worth a try... I wonder who'd be able to give us the low-down, don't think I know anyone who fishes Sheppey on a regular basis... any idea where on the island?

I've never fished Nero's - but I'm happy to give it a bash - any tips? I could make that my destination for next week.... I'll have to see if there's any peelers in the shops, as I'm not that keen on rummaging under the groynes at Herne Bay!!

Blimey - got that "must go fishing immediately" feeling back ...

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

i think the thornies come up at leysdown, not sure mate and to be honest i can't remember where i heard it,
the chap who had the bass at nero's caught them on lug apparently, but i'm sure peeler would do the trick, don't forget your little tiddler snatching rod if you go,we need a blenny and a dragonet and several others.
best of luck mate

Re: Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

Nice one Rob, I'll let you know when I'm going then, see if you can make it down.

I haven't fished at all for about 2 months, and tonight or tomorrow is the time to look in the horror that's my neglected tackle box!

Looking forward to having a go soon. Perhaps next week.

I'm thinking Ramsgate, but I wouldn't recommend you coming all the way down for somewhere I've never fished before, only to find it's cack! I'm also thinking about a night trip on Prince of Wales pier, I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Where to find a Bass in Kent/Sussex?

Just to let you know John, I'm on holiday for a week from next Saturday, so it's looks like late May/Early June mate. Don't worry about me driving to Ramsgate, I nearly blanked at Deal remember if it wasn't for my two trusty pout!

Cheers
Rob
