Smile Dorset Fishing tips please

I have been really enjoying my fishing since taking it up this year, I live on Portland at the eastern end of Chesil so I am spoilt for choice. My problem is that all I can catch are doggies. Now I don't mind but I even catch them on a whole Mackerel flapper put out for Conger or Huss. I would love to catch something else, Rays especially. Can someone suggest other marks worth trying on the Dorset coast?

I read on here last week about somewhere near Poole on the opposite end of the Sandbanks ferry but can't find the post now.

Thanks
Jon

Jon,

That's probably Shell Bay. As you leave the Sandbanks ferry and approach the toll booth you will see a National Trust car park on the left. Park here and exit the car park in the bottom corner. You go over a small bridge and then you're straight onto the beach. There is a small fresh water stream that runs off the gorse and cuts through the sand into the sea. A lot of people fish where this enters the sea. There is a mark a little further on past the toll booth called something like Jakes Gate? I'm not sure of the correct name or exact location, but I have heard this is good fishing too. Maybe another poster can give the exact location and name.

Just up from Shell bay is a gate on the right that leads to Jerrys Point it is a superb flounder and plaice mark. At low tied you can dig all yer bait here to.

That's the place mate. Nice one. I was close, it started with a J

So your boys are down. Fancy their chances next season? I was reading some horrendous articles about the mismanagement at the club. Several people need to be strung up. I think you might struggle next season, but that could be a good thing as it will make the management focus hard on the finances.
