| My brother was telling me that it says in one of his fishing books that it is only worth spinning in the south west and places like that where the water is '' gin clear '' . Is this true I have fished cornwall and it is the perfect spinning place but i also fish norfolk quite alot and the water is not that clear so is it worth spinning there?? Also can you spin at night? |

| Re: Spinning ? I do better spinning when the water is stirred up after a gale. Also the bass that I've caught in the surf seem much stronger than they are when it's been quiet for a while. |

| i tried spinning at shaldon recently experimenting with spinners for the first time, but didnt catch i tried from where the boats end to just past the little light house. but i couldnt cast the light spinner/lure past the seaweeds[i can only cast these light lures about 30 yards]. its the first time i tried the carry as little as you can in a rucksack theory i keep reading about, so i guess i didnt leave myself very much choice in terms of swapping rod and cast out a biger lure/lead. still id like to try spinning for bass again this summer. so to the more experianced spinners out there, any tips? do you need waders for spinning to be effective or do they just helplots, i find that casting 30yards out in to the incomming seaweed and then dragging apound of the stuff back didnt attract the fish, i might get a better responce if i walk in past the weeds |

| hey dude try useing an inline weight. not sure wot the propper name 4 them is but there only about 15p or summet. they have a swivel each end and u put it about half a foot above your spinner/lure. withe the spinner/lure on heavyer line below it. OR alternitivly you cold use a heavyer spinner/lure u can get some heavyer ones pretty cheap from mail order. hope this helps. | Hi fellas, Essentially, you need to use a heavier lure and beefier rod to get past the weed. Not knowing the area at all, i would suggest you wade out a bit to help with your distance. But be very careful. Always look at the shoreline at low tide to see if there are any underwater holes or crevices that you may fall into. And be careful you do not get cut off by the incoming tide. Normally fish that "attack" lures do it because they can see the lure or spinner if it resembles there prey fish. Here in the Bristol channel its a waste fo time spinning as the water clarity is nil...like chocolate! So the fish hunt by scent and sometimes by feel, I.E. Cod have the barbules to locate their prey. If the water clarity is less than 2-3 feet it becomes difficult for the fish to see the lure, but they do "sense" their prey through the lateral line that goes down their flank. I'm no expert on spinning, but perhaps someone else on the forum may have some experience and tips to help you. So the water does not have to be "Gin Clear" but clear enough for them to see your lure. I hope this helps. Last edited by Old Smoothound; 04-14-2005 at 12:21 PM. |

| Re: Spinning ? I like to spin on a beach or cove that shelves steeply or one with rocks at one side that you can get on and cast across just behind the waves. A 9' spinning rod, around 50/60 gms, with a medium sized fixed spool and the right amount of line, 10/12lbs bs, will cast a 28grm Toby or wedge a hell of a long way. |

| i personally love spinning and find it is an active and very productive way of fishing giving exelent fights on lighter gear. sometimes when nothing is taking i find bait spinning is a good method to try, i have a £5 5 foot tourist rod and i put a simple float weight on with a baited trace, if any fish takes that you are in for one hell of a fight!!!!!!! i have always found lighter gear to be easier handling than huge beachcasters for spinning, a good bass rod and a little flick can send a 2gramme spinner miles off to the horizon! __________________ -Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. -Hard work has a future payoff.
