Cool Travel Tripods

Hi fellas,

I need a bit of advice. I have purchased a couple of travel shore rods for trips to far flung places. (Sharpness )

But I find it difficult to get hold of a decent travel tripod for these rods. I have a very good normal 6 foot tripod, but it does not fold down.

The tripod would need to collapse down to circa 3 feet in length, or the same length as my Penn Extreme rods.

So having bought travel rods...I can't use them with a tripod cos I can't buy or find one

Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Travel Tripods

The best thing i have found for traverling is to buy a 3 foot plastic pipe from a plumbers shop, you just push it into the sand like a spike and stick ya rod inside.

If you take your rod with you when you get the pipeing you can find one that is tight enough so it rests snugly when fishing but also big enough to fit your rod in to protect it when traverling.
In the plumbers shop again you can find a couple of caps to fit on either end to stop the rod coming out,
This has worked for me all this year without any damage, even surviving Russian and Italian baggage handlers.

If fishing on rocks then i just find a suitable hole in the rock and stick me rod in there.

Cheers Mark.

Re: Travel Tripods

Smoothie I have seen a telescopic Ian Golds 6ft Match tripod. This model has three tubular legs all of which telescope down to 3ft! Expect to pay about £35 though mate

Cool Re: Travel Tripods

Cheers Juan and Pingu,

I need a tripod that folds down to about 3 feet and is strong enough to be used like my normal Dave Lovelock tripod.

£35 seems OK. So long as its strong....

cant speak from experience but use a 6ft match tripod by Ian Golds and cant beat it for stability and design. But the 6ft match has a triangular back-leg which provides much more stability.
How stable the telescopic version is with three tubular legs I dont know....

Re: Travel Tripods

ive had a 6ft tele tubeulat tripod 4 ages the only problem is ive lost one of the screw thingys for tightening one of the legs into place with. its awsome tho and very strong. you need rock to hold it in place on flatter surfaces likie concrete but there are always rocks lyeing around.
