Cleaning tips

Alright I've just brought a nice kahuna rod reel and I'm wondering about cleaning it with wd40 or I've got some swarfiga duck oil anyone used anything like this for wiping down ya rod n Cleaning ya reel, I just don't wanna knacker them lol or any other tips would be handy

normally a rinse under cold water should be suffice

wet wipes...great for cleaning fishing rods and reels alike...also gives an oily protection.

WD40 is fantastic in its own right but be careful as its a degreasant and will wash the bearing of grease. Fantastic for cleaning the body of the reel and will bring it up like new.

Wouldn't any WD40 sprayed onto the spool taint the line and possibly repel any fish?

no quite the opposite some people use it as a bait enhancer...they spray it on fish baits...never tried it myself, just can't bring myself to do it.

I usually give my reels a quick dunk in warm soapy water (fairy liquid) but don't let it soak.
The soapy water also makes sure the line sinks next session.

thats the wd40 of old that used to contain natural fish oils .. its now petroleum based so the fish certainly wont be amused.. baby wipes are great on a rod as is a cloth with fairy liquid.
