| Re: Sea Fishing in Spain?? Hi Shad, I live in Greece mate, so very similar fishing. Norfolkboy is spot on, In summer all the fish come in close to the shore, so Beachcasting equipment is extreme overkill. When you get to your destination nip into a supermarket or one of the many little fishing shops, and get yourself a telescpoic rod, somthing like 2.7m will be spot on, while your there get some extrely basic 3 hook flappers and some 45gm weights, then grab some frozen shrimps, keep em froizen until you start fishing, sprinkle em with some sugar, and let them defrost in the sun for an hour or so, the chances of catching big fish from the shore on the Med is extremly small so cut the shrimps into tiny pieces (about the size of your little finger nail), i usually used 1 shrimp for all 3 hooks. And jobs a goodun, your probably going to get a few Gilthead seabream or Mullet maybe even some the weird rock fish. If you plan on using the rod again then by a good telescopic 80 Quid will get ya a good un, you can then use it for light fishing back in Blighty. Grauvell is a really good make, and is its a spanish manufactorer you'll probably get em cheaper there. If you have a decent Fixed spool reel, take that with you though, as the ones you can get there are usually crap or expensive. Alternatavly use a hand line, you'll see loads of old blokes using em, its just a plastic spool you hold, no rod, cheap as chips, but it doesn't reaaly feel like fishing to me though. Cheers Mark. p.s. I think this sort of question might be asked more often coming up to the summer, do ya think if a write a Med fishing guide it would be useful? would ya put it on the site? |

My Dad lives in Spain and has been asking me to find out what to fish for and where is a good spot near Alicante. Given that some of the Med species such as Gilthead Bream can be caught around Portland and weigh in excess of 6lb, why cant you catch them in the Med? |

| Re: Sea Fishing in Spain?? I went to the saouth of France this summer and fished about six times the biggest fish I caught was 4 inches long no idea what it was. I saw hundreds of guys fishing all over the rocks and beaches 99% of them caught very small stuff I saw sizable fish caught only twice bream and bass about 1lb each. The other people in the area locals were making a big fuss about the catch as it seamed to be quite a rare event and one of the older guys said the guy who caught them was a professional. Not sure what he meant by that but the fish were caught with very thin worms that the guy had dug himself, not available in tackle shops. In France the supermarkets sell cheap kit and bait, it looks like farmed rag of at least two types, but if you can find a Decathlon sport shop in Spain, apparently they have them, then you can get lots of good kit and cheap bait of all types. Got to be the best sports shop I have ever been in by miles, it was fantastic, wife had to drag me out several times. If you buy rods be careful of the lenght when they are broken down as they let me on the plane with my small one and confiscated the longer one and it was only 100mm collapsed, saying it was a potential weapon, and the one that collapsed to 800mm was not. I was really peed off it cost me 9 Euros. In my experience fishing form the shore in the Med is very poor, the big fish are caught from the boats some of which are only moored 1-200m off shore. If I go back to the Med I will either hire a boat or go on a charter trip. But it may be different in Spain. __________________ The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.
