New technique? We have a learning disabled lad living with us who i have introduced to sea fishing, he has picked it up well and is very competetive. Today we went to Babbacombe pier (Torquay) and were catching mainly whiting on the bottom. He likes to cast further than me (not hard) and puts a lot of effort into it. For his recent 30th birthday i bought him a new rod and a pen fixed spool reel. I was sitting on the pier just taking in the winter beauty of the misty blue and pink sky when i heard a distressed call, "Get a diver" "Get a diver!" I turned to look at him and there he stood rod less!!! His entire kit had left his grasp and dissapeared into 20ft of water. Two hours of dragging my bottom rig over the likely spot eventualy brought up a section of his line which we carefully pulled in to retriefve his rod n reel. It could have been worse, he could have gone in with it. The reel is now in bits for cleaning and drying out. __________________ Luv Foggy It wasnt me!

All the best. Jason __________________ ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º>¸. ·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.. ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º> |

Re: New technique? unlucky....and lucky at the same time. i'd give the reel a bit of attention....open it up and spray liberally with wd40...will disperse any saltwater in it but also the existing oil so a quick squirt of oil will be needed on the spindle and a bit of grease on the gears (bigger cogs). failing that take it into a shop for a strip down and re-grease. john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size

Re: New technique? Well he did give it some welly but the bale arm flipped over and in the confusion he sort of dropped it, I was lucky to get it back because its weedy and rocky in that spot. __________________ Luv Foggy It wasnt me!

Re: New technique? i cast a float rod off a wooden pier in germany once, and for no reason whatsoever took a step forward after said cast, and went straight in the water ! ( i did manage to hold onto the rod though ) .Well done on getting it back - i'm sure after a good rinse it will be fine . perhaps a wrist strap attached to the butt might be the way forward ( the rod butt not his lol ) __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting
