| Difference between a Pouting and a Poor Cod After seeing MRG2000's poor Cod and deciding I couldnt tell it from a pouting I did a seach and found this: ![]() The Poor Cod: The first anal fin begins behind the first dorsal fin The Pouting: the first anal fin begins under the first dorsal fin The best way to renenber is the poor cod has the poorer (lesser) anal fin. Thought I would share it. All the best. Jason __________________ ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º>¸. ·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.. ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º> |

| easiest way to work it out is to pick the fish up.... if it leaves shiny silver disco stuff on your hands its a poor cod .. clean hands and its a pout __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Difference between a Pouting and a Poor Cod The same subject came up in Chopper's Plymouth sesh thread the other day and he posted a couple of really good pics Jason. I only knew the difference by the way Steve said about the scales but the two photos clearly show the difference. Good info on this one to J, cheers __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger |

I know I have caught some previously, I remember wondering why and also cursing the amount of scales/mess that some catches have left behind..... Problem now is trying to ID from photo's alone. Although what with the marking description as well, I think I may have even re-ID'd one catch on my phone! Need to get pics on here ideally, phone screen is big and very clear.... but not quite monitor sized for a proper close look. Seeing as this year I intend to keep some sort of 'Personal Records', mainly species and maybe a few PB's, I don't won't to do myself out of anything this early in the year! __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! | Re: Difference between a Pouting and a Poor Cod I think I may of had one this year..... Def had one last year, but that's gone now. Sat here still debating a quick (couple of hours) trip out with a bit of frozen bait to try and rack a few more species up (Double figures would be good enough for me, sod going for a 50 target!). Last thing I heard is that my choice of venue (SPP) was closed (again?). *IF* I go, I'm going to take Beach kit (Bivvy and Rod Rest) too just in case! Probably take both Beachcasters and Pier Rod, as on a pier a 6' Rod fitted with a beachcaster reel may look odd, but the same combo from the beach.. ![]() Llooking at new 'little' Rod set up in March for my B'day! ![]() Even if I can't fish off the Pier, I can maybe have a pop from the shore along the poles for a few little un's. Or even test 'the other side'..... but not sure I have correct/suited grip leads for the 95% sandy conditions I'd be in.... but since when has being less than fully equipped stopped me! Even now, I'm still heavilly reliant on begged and borrowed gear! ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: Difference between a Pouting and a Poor Cod what shelter did you get in the end ? I may just have a john Holden beach buddy here goin for a ridiculous price to the right person ! Tiny hooks should get you a couple of rockling species as well as a scorpion fish this time of year.. not really my cup of tea but more species i guess. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Difference between a Pouting and a Poor Cod I got myself a Beach Buddy using Xmas Voucher and Cash, and also 'my daughter' also got me a fairer weather shelter from Halfords. Would recommend the Halfords one for anyone who can spare the whole £10 it cost! Has stood up to ~15mph winds comfortably, no good if it rains though, but it's light, easy to set up, and has an extended groundsheet that acts as a door! As far as I'm concerned, I've more than had my monies worth out of it already! And can see it being used for summer picnics with my daughter too, some of which may just happen to be on the beach. Beach Buddy still waiting on it's first proper outing. ![]() Unless conditions call for it, or I not walking, I settle for the lighter option to carry. __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie!
