Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

Like it says in the title, I am ready to move on to multipliers but which ones?
So far I have shortlisted the following rods:

1. 13 ft Daiwa Theory Beach
2. 13 ft Abu Esprit Beach Master
3. 12.9 ft Shakespeare Saltwater Extreme Surf MX

And the shortlist for reels:

1. Okuma Magnetix
2. Abu Ambassadeur CT C3
3. Daiwa "slosh" SL30SH

Which one would you guys go for?
Might even do a poll here

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

Slosh 20 would be much better for beach work ,the new 6500`s are the quality of tesco value beans ,and last as long !. Okuma ,well you get what you pay for . A couple of others well worth considering are the Daiwa 7ht series ,Penn 515/525 mag2 , daiwa saltist and the shimano torium.... You really do get what you pay for with reels ...

Rods are a differant thing , dont know too much as i use Zziplex ...

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.
I don;t want to spend loads of money before I am sure I can get on with multipliers, therefore my choices.
They are all within a reasonable budget, and won;t break the bank if I would not get on with them.

I will surely look in to your suggestions.
Thanks again for the reply.

Regards

Peter

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

I hear what your saying ,on the budget side of things , in that case go for the Slosh , when you get on to casting multipliers ,the cheaper reels ,can give you more problems ,than you need (the 6500 needs setting up ,and constant tweeking to stay in tip top order.) .The slosh is a bomb proof and not tempremental , bear in mind that most birds nest probs are caused thro poor casting tecnique ,and not enough attention to line lay . i`d sugest you get intouch with a local casting coach ,when you`ve had a few casts and are getting confident .It will be money well spent , there are also many great casting dvd`s available

For an extra £25 or so the Penn mags are unbeatable , and virtually impossible to blow up

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

I'd suggest that you get yourself on e-bay and look at some vintage ABU reels, Peter. You can pick up a classic 70's Ambassadeur for around 70 quid. I am still using a 9000c that I bought when I was a teenager. It's been serviced twice and I'm 52 years of age this year.... Like Mike says, you certainly get what you pay for when buying a reel!

As for rods? Well, I prefer retro and vintage. I am still using a custom built beachcaster that my uncle bought me for my fourteenth birthday, I use a late sixties ABU rod for spinning/light/pier fishing and they both fish (almost) as well today as they did 35 years ago. If you want a modern rod then I can recommend pretty much anything from the 'Anyfish,Anywhere' range... I have a Mk2 6+Bait which is a great bit of kit!

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

not sure on those rods, used to have different abu and was good, reels either the slosh , ( beware i have fat thumb and cant fit 20 cage well) , look for a 7ht on ebay, easiest and simplest ( and strong) reel for beginner, easy to manage and control too
just my 50penneth worth

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

if its for generally clean to broken ground i'd go for a daiwa 7ht.
if you do fish rough or mixed or broken ground more often then the SLOSH but buy the rod first and take it along when you go for a slosh and see how it feels as they sit quite high off the rod...some people have problems with small thumbs

Abu's - if clean ground the abu c3ct mag elite (old green one) has stood the test of time. Wouldn't use any new models
...saying that i wouldn't go too old either.

Okuma...don't do it...salt water is the equivalent to the ebola virus on okuma gears...say no more

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

If I was going to buy a new rod it would be an abu atlantic 464. I heard a rumour they have the same blank as penn affinity and the mti zero 300 but alot cheaper. I started out with a sl20sh. Good reel for the money but big and cumbersome so got a couple of penn 515s. I use the old shakespeare salt beach rods. They are well worth the money. Good luck.
All the best.
Jason

Re: Ready to move on to Multiplier, but which one???

Im with the lad on this, defo either get yourself the SL20SH or a good condition second hand abu 6500 elite. I have had both these reels in the past and not had any issues with them. As for the Rod, Abu or the Diawa.

Regards

Joe

I had a pair of green mag elites and they are by far the easiest reels to cast, have a look on ebay you should be able to pick one up for £50ish.
Don't be put off the Okuma they're not as poor as some people would have you believe!
