Rod rebuild

Thought i'd put this up again as Richard Deleted it in error after someone tried trashing it.

i've just finished the tip section of a rod that was in a real sorry statewith varnish peeling and rings rusting so i thought what the hell...i'll have a try at rebuilding it.

with the advice of warren...wozza from keens and without doubt one of the best up and coming rod builders in the uk, i attempted to get a useable rod again...my only regret is not taking a couple of picks before hand....and loosing a couple from during

1st job was to take off all the old varnish...used razor blades and plenty of wet and dry before cleaning the blank meticulously with meths.

next i took on the search for a motor to turn the blank...nothing powerfull again from advice given and web searches i needed something between 5-15 revs per minute depending who you read. A microwave motor was perfect for this with a dimmer switch to turn on and off and reduce or increase to the desired speed. And made a rough stand...but it did the job.

Blank was given a coat of bondaseal which is so easy to use and really brought up the graphite great.

whipping went sllllowwwwwllllyyyyyyy...i have decided that i do not have enough fingers or hands...but masking tape is great for holding thread until your in a postion to hide the ends!!!!

was quite therapuetic actually and would advise anyone to have a go...and insist some others do!!

with the whipping over with it was quite surreal to smear colour sealer all over it making it look all gloopy (lost pic). it did clear up thankfully and was left to get the rod back in the stand and apply the highbuild

all in all i was really happy with the outcome and will be doing another this year converting an uptide rod to a 20lb boat rod.

and before anyone jumps on the post saying i'm setting myself up as mr know it all....there are much better rod builders than myself who if you want advice from i'll give you there details!!!!

john
