Line twist??

Just a quick question, I have noticed that my diawa emcast has started twisting the line as it puts it onto the spool. It makes it really stiff to reel in and reeling in the leader is a right pain? What could be causing this? Is it crap line or is my old emcast at the end of its life???

Cheers guys

joe

Re: Line twist??

Have a look at the bail arm roller to check its turning freely, it might need a bit of lube

Re: Line twist??

I think you might be right, I didn`t even know that part was there lol. It is quite stiff so I assume its a squirt of WD40?

Re: Line twist??

I think WD40 would just prolong it happening again as its a dry lube and wouold wash out any oil/greese already in the bearing and then there'd be no lube at all if that makes sense. Light machine oil, 3in1 or something like that I'd go for. It should only be one screw to remove the roller, there will prob be a bearing inside it and thats what you need to lube.
I got my own reel probs ATM, was out last night and the bloody tripod tipped over again and dunked 2 ABU's in the sea :-(

Re: Line twist??

Cheers for the information, yeah it`s a pain having reel problems however this is the first issue I have had with the reel in over 5 years so cant complain!! Unlucky with the tripod mate, guess you`ll be stripping the reels right back and a clean and a lube then? Were they 6500`s? I used to use multi`s all the time but I changed over to the F/S and long rods a few years ago, only use a ABU7000 on the piers now.

Thanks again

Joe

Re: Line twist??

Yes both 65's, easy enough though, side plates off, rinse under the tap, dry & oil. Really needed multis yesterday though, loads of weed and needed the cranking power to get lines in. It was quicker to have a new baited rigs AND shockleader to tie on rather than try and pull the weed off your line. Only took a few secs to retie the leader knot. It meant that once the old leader knot was clipped off the weed simply slide off the end! 2 codling though, both returned to grow a bit and a fat whiting that my cats devouered

I normally have a bucket that can be filled with water, sand or pebbles and it stands under the tripod and the tripod hook is connected to the bucket handle with a roof rack bungee but running about over xmas I emptied the boot of the car and forgot it. Still, means the reels got cleaned eh!

Re: Line twist??

Lol, congrats on the codling, I know what you mean about weed, it gets that way down Dungeness at times and its easier to just lop of the leader ...... You were right about the reel, I took it all apart and the roller was really tight, gave it a squirt of WD40 to release it and clean out all the grit and greese, then added a few drops of 3 in 1 that i forgot I had to lube it up. Working fine now!!! Now to go do the other reel before it jams up lol

Many thanks

Joe

Re: Line twist??

joe i have emcasts it usually grit in the bail roller if you want to untwist your line get a spin doctor they are pretty cheap attaches to end of your line like a lead just cast it out and reel back it gets rid of the line twist
