Re: what do you wear on your feet?

got fed up of destroying a pair of hiking/walking boots every 12 months...salt water is not good for any of this type of genre boots!!!! my pocket knows

did a lot of research on this before buying a new pair of fishing boots....

came up with these and after having used them for 8 or 9 months now i can honestly say they are absolutley brilliant. don't even think about walking across algae/slimey low tide rocks.

SNOWBEE ROCKHOPPERS

oh...they are lovely and warm too!!

theres a video somewhere of a guy running up an iced up road in them!!!

Re: what do you wear on your feet?

Rockhoppers for me too ,after seeing how good they were ...you can walk over seeweed and slippery surfaces without a problem ,warm too ,i bought a bigger size for the winter ,so i can fit in a couple of layers of socks ...they out grip hiking/climbing boots 1000% and are purpose made for anglers .

Dont wear them in a shop with a soft floor tho ,the spikes make mincemeat out of cheap floor tiles ...

Re: what do you wear on your feet?

Difficult question is that. If I'm climbing over rocks and boulders I go for strong ankle boots to give some protection if you turn your ankle accidentally. But the boots I've got are 'toe tectors' which means a metal plate above the toe section. In winter, once this plate gets cold you've no chance of getting cold toes warm again! If you wear wellies they are thin and the cold from frozen ground soon gets through the sole and into your toes. Now here's a laugh; last winter I took a camping gaz heater, some water, a saucepan and hot water bottle. I wore trainers and whenever I was sitting down I rested my feet on the hot water bottle which I reheated frequently. (I TOLDyou I'd give you a laugh, but my feet have never been warmer. lol. Kind regards. John R.

Re: what do you wear on your feet?

I've found best thing is 1st of all to buy some really thick sole boots to keep feet as far away from ground as poss'
Then a thin pair of socks on bare feet, then some long LOOSE KNIT socks on top (similar texture to the ARRAN sweaters)

Here's the science bit - the loose knit allows your own body heat to circulate between the holes.

A pair of the wifes tights (yours that is) will also help keep yer' legs warm.

There are high tech' boots on the market but have'nt tried any.

Also a good insulator is newspaper so you might try putting your feet on one while fishing ( Today's news isn't just tomorrows fish & paper - it can also be tomorrows foot warmer)

They look good, Lazy Hooker (John). When you say 'don't even think about walking across algae etc..... do you mean 'don't even consider walking across algae etc? or do you mean that they are so good that you don't even have to think or worry if you walk on slippery surfaces? Kind regards. John R.

Re: what do you wear on your feet?

Heat Holder socks are great, plan on buying some neoprene wellies from farm supply shop soon, used to have a pair and they were great.

Re: what do you wear on your feet?

I would say a lot depends on where you are fishing and how far you have to walk/climb to get to your mark.
I use nothing but hiking boots and good quality socks, usually two pair of boots a year as they do take a lot of punishment so dont spend too much on them.
Those snowbee boots do look good but i cant see me hoofing down the coastpath and through the gorse with them.
