| Fishing accidents I was wetting a line yesterday when a young lad, who had been fishing further along the beach, came to me with a badly cut hand. He was clearly stressed and asked if I had any bandages or plasters. I didn't, but fortunately a chap who had been watching the anglers had a first aid kit in his nearby car and the panic was resolved. Afterwards I got to thinking that if some similar accident happened to me, I wouldn't have even the smallest of plasters in my box. So, I've put that right and bought just a couple of packs of assorted sized plasters, a roll of bandage and some surgical tape. It all takes up very little room in the box so at least I'm a bit better prepared for any mishap in the future. I would imagine that most serious anglers already carry at least a bit of 'first aid' stuff. Do you????? Kind regards. John R. __________________ Kissin' don't last! Fishin' do. |

| Re: Fishing accidents I do have a lidl first aid kit when i go down the gower camping...great value at a fiver....they have changed though...when i bought mine it had loads of plasters a bandage and all the stuff for your normal bumps and cuts. http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg//...d&ar=5&nf=True do i have anything like that in my box for day to day fishing....nope.... ...i do always have a role of insulation tape that great for cuts etc until you can get home...used it plenty of times for thornback thorn cuts etc.also worth considering in this day an age which i don't agree with is the sueing culture. If you are qualified or unqualified and administer first aid incorrectly you can be sued in this god forsaken culture that we live in!!!!! __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |

| Re: Fishing accidents Even I as returning n00b have a 'First Aid Kit' that always gets packed when I go fishing. By no means is it a "Medical Emergency Response Kit", but it does contain a few assorted plasters for those minor nicks/stabs. My FA kit also includes spare lighter being a smoker, I can take a small bleed but can't be doing without something to smoke. After reading some of the above, it's going to get at least the addition of a roll of tape! Have always thought "If the cuts that bad, clothes etc could be used for a bandage..." which would probably end a fishing trip anyway, just never really thought of keeping it attached.. ![]() Due to not having any 'proper' fishing clothing, my fish-wear consists of multi layers of older clothes, so underlayers reamin reasonably clean, if a bit smelly after a couple of trips.... Crossing fingers, Touching wood, etc.... I have never had any *bad* experiences in my younger days, and nothing more than a small hook stab since returning. Which knowing myself I am quite proud of, and more than little bit suprised too! __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: Fishing accidents I always carry a comprehensive first aid kit in my car for emergencies plus I carry a couple of plasters in a small plastic envelope in my fishing bag. I used to serve in the 'Fleet Air Arm' doing 'Aircrew rescue' for a time so I've always been aware of the need for such small items especially if I am fishing on my own away from built-up areas where I can't get help. Thankfully I have only used my first aid kit a couple of times when I have either cut myself on my line or impaled a hook in my finger, but I have also helped someone who cut themselves badly on a saw once at a fishing work party; and we have always since ensured that the club had a first aid kit on work party days. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
