rig line

I bought some 50lb b/s for making rigs, but it is difficult to tie hooklinks to the hook, it seems a bit wiry and is kinking on tightening the knots, yes i do moisten before tightening up, i think I may have purchased a cheaper quality line, does anybody have any suggestions regarding good lines, with quality/suppleness, that they could recommend ?

Re: rig line

Hi Chris, are you using the 50lb line both for the main rig line AND the snood lengths? Or are the snoods of a smaller breaking strain? I've always found it easier to pull up the hook knot tightly if you do it in a warm environment - the line seems more pliable at higher temps. Well, it works for me (and me tortoise). Kind regards.

Re: rig line

hi , yes I was tieing some last night and trying to tie size 2/0 circle hook to the line, took 5/6 attempts to get hook connected, but it still ended up a bit kinked, about an inch above the hook eye, may have to discard and do again, not really happy with the result.

Re: rig line

Why are you tying your hooklengths out of 50lb line, unless you are after conger or fishing very rough ground.
try tying your hooklengths in a lower breaking strain mono like 25 or 30lb,this will make it easier to snug up the knot with no kinks.
I use amnesia without any problems or memorex.

Re: rig line

I was using berkley trilene 20lb b/s and gardner hydroflo 18lb, but found the hooklinks tangling around rig length.

Re: rig line

Hi Chris - not a carp angler myself, but you should have watched THINKING TACKLE on sky discovery shed (channel 242)
The regular presenter was showing how to tie this thick line perfectly.
1st he tied a barrel swivel to both ends of 20lb fluorocarbon using a figure of 8 knot @ each end with a very large loop (so the swivel was free to move in the loops this finished about 10" Long
He then threaded a piece of 50lb rigid rig (bristle line as he callled it) with a large hook so it POPPED UP (rig putty around the swivel) & he put a curve in the pop up bit by teasing it sound with his fingers).
He also melted the ends with lighter (carefully though)

You'd have to watch it for yourself as i can't remember all the detail though
May be on youtube.
