| Coasters versus reel seat I have an Anyfish Anywhere beach rod fitted with coasters. Are there any techniques that I should know about when it comes to fishing with these fittings. Even screwed down as far as I can get them, the reel still feels slightly insecure. Would I be better off investing in an after market slip-on reel seat? If so, what manufacturer would anyone here recommend? Cheers! Steve __________________ 2012 species: Whiting, LS Dogfish, Grey Mullet, Mackerel |

| Re: Coasters versus reel seat ABU griplock seats, slide up and down ,but are the same as a normal reel seat when locked up,various sizes available , if you cant get a snug fit ,either another layer of shrink tube or use black tape under where you want the seat to fit. UK hooks also do a great adjustable reel seat.... __________________ Mike.. | Re: Coasters versus reel seat If coasters aren't holding your reel properly either you are not tightening them down enough or they are sheite coasters. If you decide to get an ABU griplock fitting make sure you get the right diameter or you'll still have problems. |

| Re: Coasters versus reel seat I use one of them talon things! I find it pretty good, a little over priced for what it is but it does work well. You would have to try pretty hard to over tighten it to break your rod. I havn't had any problems with the reel slipping either. My rod is tapered and has an eye on the but end so I can't use a sliding reel seat. | Re: Coasters versus reel seat no one has mentioned it yet but coasters commonly come in 3 different sizes, to fit different diameter butts 33mm , 30mm & 27mm and if im correct this is to cope with rod blanks getting narrower over the years. i often see cheap coasters on ebay etc these invariably seem to be the 33mm ones which as far as i can tell are a bit too big for modern narrow blanks . as an example the 33's are a bit to big for my old awb but as suggested by mrg, extra tape or another layer of shrink tube will sort it. also worth noteing is that older style multiplier reel seats were designed for screw up fittings and are not flat as suits coasters as are nearly all fixed spools but with a bit of thought i can strap on f/s reels with coasters. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
