rig clips

I have a small query, maybe some of the more experienced could provide an answer.

trying to get tackle and rig bits together, i bought some clips that have an eyed top then it forms a bend on itself, like a hair grip.

now i have seen them with leads attached, up the line with snoods connected, for quick change of baited hooks.
the problem i have come across, whilst fishing town quay, as you are all aware, not a distance cast, but a gentle lob, when i used these clips, i had the rod behind me, loaded with a four oz grip lead and two hooks, cast foward gently, but had no resistance on the rod, when i looked only the clip was at the end of the shock leader.

several of the anglers looked around the car park looking for the rig, it was never found, now i am erring on the side of caution with these clips, as to the safety factor on a thump cast, has anybody else had a similar problem ?

Re: rig clips

yea thats them i never lost a rig on them have your rigs got swivels on the end to attach to the clips or are you using a loop in the line as i found when using them to attach hook links the line can creep under i usualy just bend em a little more with pliers so the 2 sides of clip touch

Re: rig clips

Hi Chris,
I have lost mackeral traces using a genie clip as the traces just had a loop tied in the end. They work well when used with a swivel or as I used with the mackeral feathers a split ring.
Good video, Im going to make it my new goal in life to pendulum cast!
All the best.
Jason

Re: rig clips

I've lost quite a few rigs upon impact with the water, and when using swivels. I'm now very careful when buying them as some are not tight enough.
The worst ones i had were by Fox.
Nothing worse then sending a loveley peeler or Lug out to the horizon and then winding down to nothing

Re: rig clips

I use the Gemini Geni clips ,and have never had any problems , are you using the genuine ones ,or the micky mouse E BAy ones ,which are made of poor quality materials and tend to open up under pressure ....

Agree, i've NEVER had a problem with the originals ..I wouldnt recommend using 'shop bought' feathers on them where there is just a mono loop

All of my shore rigs have a size 8 rolling swivel at the top ( diamond eye ) and i'll never go back to the bulky old Q.F swivels !

when i use 'proper pulleys' i will remove the gemini clip from the shockleader and tie the same size 8 swivel to it instead.

it's also good to remember that if you have a swivel at the top of your rig and a swivel at the lead , one will counteract the other and you will in effect have NO swivel ..i see this all the time with mackerel bashers and even by folks attaching ready made rigs

cheap terminal tackle is not an option guys - korean bloody hooks and swivels , nastily formed clips and such like may just lose you that fish of a lifetime !
If you see a deal on ebay that looks like its a bargain it's because wholesale imports cost a fraction of the normal uk or us made kit .. its 99% gash

Re: rig clips

i use these clips sea fishing same as we use in carping these are the sea version ,,i know some lads here are top sea lads but in my oppinion these have no chance of loosing leads or rigs as there is no way for lead to creep under....saying that nothing is fool proof
