Freezer Fun?

Never really been one to ever refreeze baits, what little ever used to be left got 'free fed' to the sea.
But after having quite some leftovers and a total nightmare of a trip.
I have a load of frozen bait stored.....

Then the mind kicks in on a quiet moment.....

Defrost, have ready made rigs to go, bait up, refreeze until needed.
Saves messing around when out fishing, even more so when it's more likely to be used on a night fish.

I know the tackle and bait will be fine, but unsure on how line would take to being frozen.

Hints, Tips, Suggestions, Warnings, Anythings!
All welcome.

Talking Re: Freezer Fun?

I see what your thinking , but other than baiting up with fresh peeler crab , elasticating and then freezing , i cant see what benefits you would gain from doing this ?
How would you use less bait ?
I would need rigs x2 - 4 if double patting , x by enough to change every 20 minutes and maybe 5 x different baits ? thats maybe 6 per hour .. what if i want to change bait ? on an 8 hour session i reckon you would need 40 rigs...
then what if you wanted to use a flapper or scratching rig ?

If you just froze snoods that clipped on then fine... but to what size hook ? what breaking strain snood ? which bait / cocktail of baits ?

How would you wrap them ? i'm pretty sure the swivels and crimps - perhaps even the hooks might start to corrode if left too long

I might be completely missing your point - but one of us has definetly been drinking lol

Re: Freezer Fun?

Thinking of it partially just so I can get something good done with regards to fishing
Trips out not looking too likely at the mo, and really need to 'move on' from last trip (2 casts, 2 loads of tackle lost.)
Also with the bait in question being fiddly and more likely to be used on a night trip, looking to save a little time, but mainly to save my poor little pinkies from freezing
Fishing trips are now looking at being mainly solo, as fishing buddy with full kit (and more important the car to transport it all) is even more of a fair weather fisherman than me!

Re: Freezer Fun?

Now I've got a little more time....
(as I not out fishing... then by the time it stopped it would meant a 45 min walk with full kit TO as well as home)
... I can possibly elaborate a bit more.
Although I think what was my main concern has already been dismissed.
I was mainly concerned about the line itself.
The metal of the crimps contracting in the coldhave already been taken into account!
Would be left open until use, so not entirely fiddle free (quick squeeze in place) but much easier/quicker/cleaner still.

After more or less half completing my plan....
Went round to collect some frozen bait before the rain came...
Stopped and 'prep'd some bits while there.
Unfortunately due to not intending to be stopping and having all kit laid out at home ready to pack in order....
I was missing some of the most important parts to complete my dasterdly plan!

My plan isn't so much a 'Full trip' bait supply, more of a 'Here's one I made earlier' for use as an additional/change of bait for during the trip.

My personal ranking system is no joke...
So as for the breaking strain etc.... it's what I got (and that's not much) or nowt!

*Hoping* to get some nice weather/wind/tide/life combination so I can take a trip down memory lane and fish South Parade Pier one night.
Need the extra length to get line out far enough to target something bigger than 'live bait'.
. o O { Me... Target.... "As long as it's alive and it comes out of the sea, it's a catch!" Not including weed of course, Vegetarian fish don't count! ....}

Have now got a few 'stuffed' squid in the freezer, along with the rest of a couple of packs of limpet 'portioned' (so I can take a 'pack' out and take my daughter out fishing down the Pier poles maybe..... while it just so happens I have a Rod out too... ), and a 'prepared' whopping great mackerel.

None of which is on any tackle at all though.... but it's a start for now.
Can always rethaw, finish and refreeze!

As for the invite, would be more than happy to tag along and provide some entertainment while I learn where I'm going wrong!
