Lure Retriever!

Came across this contraption while browsing for lures on fleabay. What do the members think of this?

Re: Lure Retriever!

hi steve,
they did one years ago called the 'otter' for fresh water, worked on the same principle, the only forseeable problem is the angle of the line to the lure, if it aint high enough, it would travel down the line, to the water then slow down its decent, till it reaches the low point of the line, thus not actually reaching the lure.
would the mainline/rod be strong enough to take the weight and pressure imposed.

the further the distance, the shalower the angle, less impact of the device hitting the lure, hence less chance of the chains to be effective.

just my thoughts, perhaps ? maybe ?

could be good from a boat, with steep angle ?

dunno !!
maybe someone else has had experience with one.

Re: Lure Retriever!

I wasnt expecting such a sensible answer Chris! I could just see my mates rolling around laughing when i brought out the weighted bog chain and tomahawk in case a sea turkey took off with my surface lure .

Seriously though i think your right about the angle of the line it probably wouldnt reach the lure with line stretch more so with kelpy areas waving around in the tide.

Re: Lure Retriever!

lol, a lot of the gadgets catch more anglers than they catch for purpose, a bit like floats in the tackle shop, ask any coarse angler how many they have ? answer: too many, not even used 1/2 of them yet, and every time they go to the shop, they buy more !!!!!!!!!.

i know i do, must have a good 300+now, including some old cork ones from my early years, but...... on that 1 day in 10 years i need it, there it is in the box.

Re: Lure Retriever!

It's like the lure tarts that own every overpriced shiny bit of metal and plastic going, geared to catch more anglers than fish in some cases.
I know what i thought when i came across it lol!
I,m watching this space cause i reckon there's a few more laughs to be had from this thread .
Maybe someone even owns one!
