Called in sainsbury's last week to buy a couple of fresh mack for a sesh, noticed on the counter fresh Sprats, wondered if they would be any good for dead bait. They were between 11/2"-2" long, really shiny. Would it be worth a try as a static bait or on the retreive as a lure. Would be interested in your thoughts? Cheers. ![]()

Re: Sprats!!! Alot of people swear by them and to quote Mick Brown sprats will usually account for at least a couple of 20's caught by spotty teenagers each season but thats usually due to availability and value for money!! Ive not had a great deal of luck on them to tell you the truth, can see the attraction though, soooooo shiny. Saying that caught a 4.5lb eel on one a month or so ago. Cant beat a nice shiny roach IMO where aloud to use them Dan __________________ Species for 2011: Pike, Perch, Chub, Roach, Silver Eel, Thorn Back Ray.

sprats work well in the winter months when fish gorge on them .. if there has been a big blow and they are getting washed up on the surfline then the big predators are normally just behind wiating for an easy meal. the boys were using them earlier in the year at dungie for dabs , but by all accounts they could have used bananas and still caught ! If they are fresh and not with blown stomachs then they are deffo worth a go either under a float , free lined or two / three at a time on the bottom .. ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting
