Do you Release fish unharmed or take them home?

Hi

I was reading the highs and lows of fishing thread and noticed that nobody had put in the highs about taking a nice catch home . So i just wondered who takes a nice catch home ? and who releases unharmed?

I personally will take a good catch home and i do not think theres anything wrong with that at all . Obviously i would never take an under sized fish and i think anyone that does is out of order! I will take home well sized bass , whiting , flatties , cod ( if i ever get a fair sized one! )

I think it was gullyworm who said anyone taking home a fish was a moron , well i suppose thats a matter of opinion.

Well what do you guys do?

Re: Do you Release fish unharmed or take them home?

I think Gullyworm was referring to people who keep "any" fish as in "every" fish.

I would be very surprised if any sea fisherman thought another a "moron" for keeping a fish or two for the pot.

I for one keep my fair share. I love black bream but throw smaller ones and egg-laden females back. This is probably as much a gesture as anything however as the number of pregnant females caught by line is negligible compared to the number hoovered from the sea by commercial fishing (but that's another topic).

Generally, if it's good eating it's in the bag - though I've never kept a tope or smut.

Re: Do you Release fish unharmed or take them home?

I take home what is a sizeable fish i.e. over legal limits, but only when I feel the need. Everything else gets put back into the sea. Gullyworm probably meant what Andy said, however some people release all their catches back into the sea

Hi Bouncer,

As a charter fisherman, I always take my catch home. Like yourself I never take undersized fish.

I take my fare share of my catch and always offer a fish or two to those unfortunate not to have caught.

I don't feed neighbours or "cats", I only take for myself.

Cheers

I keep any mackerel I get and everything else is photographed and released.

Re: Do you Release fish unharmed or take them home?

Love to take home something, although it normally ends up being mackeral!
Being able to eat what you catch is what makes sea fishing much more attractive to me as opposed to freshwater fishing. (No offence meant)

Cheers, Darren

Hi Folks,

Having read your posts, to those of you who say I release my catch, what do you do with the Cod - Pouting and Ling, caught from a boat?

Drew
