Question distance

what do anglers consider as a fair range for shoreline marks, and as distance can only be guessed at are we over estimating when we cast, just as anglers over emphasize fish weights/length without scales or rulers.

Re: distance

Depends ,where your fishing and what your fishing for i supose, a lot of good fish can be had close in. My Penn mags have 3 rings in the side of the spool ,so you know how far your casting ( compared to a measured cast on the field.)

Re: distance

your right mike, i wasnt looking at distance of fish locations, i understand different speceis are caught at various distances from the shore.
i was wondering if actual distance, could be overstated, when guessing from the shoreline, ei. a cast of say 80 yds, could look like a 100, and be estimated as such

Re: distance

I am terrible for this - infact i won't even estimate a cast as i haven't got a scooby doo !!
i keep meaning to measure over grass but just end up whacking the lead back and forth trying to hit birds
I guess i fish at mid to long range most of the time - based on the distances of the guys next to me ?

Oh definatly Chris , i think perception of distance is hard .....A lot of anglers who can cast 150 yards ,are actually casting 80-90 . Its not till you go on a field and measure it ,you realise how far you can or cant cast .

A lot of people can cast the length of a rugby field ,and think they`re casting a long distance, but thats only 110 yards .

I know this from experiance ,from having casting lessons .......
