Fishing tackle and the Mrs!

How do you go about purchasing expensive kit and keeping the misses happy?

I just asked the misses if I could get a beta box with the breakaway convesion and accessory kit. She took it well considering its £75 for a plastic box! Even though I think its a good bit of kit and cant wait to get one it is a bit expensive for what it is. I though she would think I’m mad, maybe I am!!?
I have been trying to find the right moment to ask her for about 3 days now. I told her I want it for my birthday, 5 weeks away! She said ok. :-)
I dont normally bore her with the details of how much I spend on tackle and buy everything in cash.
This purchase however would be noticed as its online and she might notice it next time I go fishing! so I though I should go about it the honest way. She took it well this time but in the past it has ended up in big arguments.

Jason

Re: Fishing tackle and the Mrs!

Some years ago, (before the arrival of the internet and on-line purchasing) I worked with a chap who regularly spent an absolute fortune on his radio controlled model aircraft. He couldn't really afford it and he used to keep his wife short of money. If she had ever found out, his voice would have gone up a few octaves by the time she'd finished with him. He would buy some new bit of kit and keep it hidden until his next club meeting and when he came home from that he would show his missus the kit and tell her he'd won it at the club raffle!
She must have been really nieve! Let's face it, no one wins raffle after raffle, week after week. Kind regards to all.

I found that firing the kitchen manager , and getting a Jack Russell for company solved ,all my tackle purchase dilema`s ,so long as the dog goes down the beach for a walk regularly ,i get no problems

Re: Fishing tackle and the Mrs!

you are knackered without a car jason,i have used the won the raffle method with success but by far the easiest is to leave it in the car and bring it in when you get home from your next session,

it goes like this ... " new fishing gear dear ?? , no , i've had this for years, just cleaned it up, come up like new hasn't it ? "

worked every time

Spoken like a true pro Paul!
I have only been back into fishing for about 18months now though! Should try it anyway.
I have made back up plans to say I picked it up second hand or a mate gave it to me.
Not had to use them yet!
She is pretty good most of the time. When I got my slosh she said I might as well have flushed £70 down the toilet! I was suprised she said ok to the box.

Re: Fishing tackle and the Mrs!

I found sacking the ball and chain was the answer to all my tackle problems and freed up more space and time for tackle and trips out. And the bonus ball is when you get home knackered after a long cold winter sesh you can dump the gear anywhere without fear of a tongue lashing and flop straight into bed with your floaty suit on and then your ready for an early morning sesh. Brilliant lol!
