Is this a good rod? A nearby neighbour is shortly emigrating and has already sold almost all his fishing tackle. But he still has a penn affinity trg 15foot 3 piece rod which casts 3 to 5 oz. He's not sure if he really wants to get shot of it but asked me if I'd be interested in it for £95. Anyone know about these rods? Is it worth having? I do know that Littlefish recently suggested I consider a longer rod to improve my casting distance. Kind regards to all.

Re: Is this a good rod? there £200 plus rods but there's also draw backs to long rods. there a pain in the backside in wind...making bite detection harder. if you fish places that space is restricted they can be more trouble than their worth i always find that with a reel up longer rods can be unwieldy...no problem with a fixed spool. you can gain the extra 20-30yards by having a casting lesson with your existing gear...for next to nothing john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size

Re: Is this a good rod? I use long rods now as I find them easier to cast with, and the only problem I have had with them is fishing in tight space like John said. That being said their arn`t many places i go that this is a prolem so I feel the benefits far outweigh the cons. I have got a Shakespear K2 Red Metal Twin Tip, it`s 15ft tall but comes with two different tip sections, 1 is extra sensative which I use for small fish and light work and the other is a more robust tip that is stiffer and can take heavy weights. I have had no problems with bite detection and i also find that if there is a big surf rolling along the beach I can set my rest and use the extra height in the rod to lift it up out the breakers, thus making it better for bite detection. Im no power caster mind so I have no idea how it would work fully wound up but at over 200 quid new I would hope it would fair quite well, and because im not a power caster the extra lenght gets me an extra 20-30 yards on my cast so im more than happy with this Tight lines Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!

Re: Is this a good rod? Dadwood if the guy is a neighbour get him to let you take the rod out for a field test.If it suits buy it, if not don't. By the way these rods were around £250 new - but have a look on Ebay to get an idea of what they go for second hand - just remember that buying off your neighbour is better than off Ebay in that you get to see what you're buying and you dont have to pay for delivery.

Re: Is this a good rod? Thank you all for your valued advice. You are of course right LittleFish to say it's best if I try first and buy only if the rod suits me. I'll contact the neighbour when he gets home from work later today. Kind regards to all, and thanks again.
