| Re: any body used muscle Used mussel a lot when i fished around NE Scotland for cod, great bait but a bit of a pain to prepare. I know some people do blanch them in hot water to open the shell up. Freezing them on snoods is always a good bet. Might try and gather some and give them a go down here this winter. __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger |

| Re: any body used muscle Hi mate I have used them for Cod fishing in the winter. The best way of using them I find is to stuff them into squid bags and then whip onto the hook.To make these you just pull the head off of a squid, scoop out all the goo and bone from the middle of the squid, fill it with mussel, worm, makeral, herring ect and then tie the end of the bag shut with elastic cotton. If you let the squid soften at home you can prepare these at home before you go out, once on the beach put onto a 5/0,6/0 pennel rig and pierce a few holes with a baiting needle, wrap a few turns of elastic cotton for security, and whack it out their. You can even put the suid head on the hook to complete the look Tight Lines Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |

| Re: any body used muscle Think i,l give that method a try Joe, will certainly keep the mussels from flying everywhere. Now just have to find some big enough. __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger |

On a serious note , as stated earlier , mussels are a firm favourite up north for codling and i've had a try with some i gathered when bait digging . Problem was by the time they came out the shell they were a bit small but i have noticed Tesco were selling them and they were some big buggers ! deffo gonna buy a bag and try them this winter .. i reckon 4 or 5 bound together with elastic or wrapped in squid as Joe suggests will be the ace up my soggy sleeve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
