Knot strength It's widely known that any knot is weaker than the line it's tied in, but some are weaker than others. Some years ago, one of the angling magazines ran a series of articles in which they tied all manner of knots and tested them to destruction. I remember that some of the findings were quite startling - knots commonly used turned out to be much weaker than some of the lesser used ones. When it comes to knots used for tying hooks, swivels, and clips etc., does anyone know which knots are best to use in terms of their strength? Kind regards to all. JohnR.

Re: Knot strength i use beleave it or not a carp hair rig knot on my sea hooks i tie a hair rig on the shank as normal and cut off the hair dead neat and being a carp angler i know its strong ,,through the eyewith a short tag round the shank loking the tag 7 times then back through the eye with long tag pull tight snip off the small hair tag the knots strength is on the shank of the hook not cutting into itself ,,all my mates use it now never lost a hook that way

Re: Knot strength I generally use the 1/2 tuck blood knot, doesn't slip, remains the strongest knot around. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Knot strength ive been using a clinch knot, the tests ive done have broke the line about 4inches from the knot before the knot has come undone or snapped at the knot __________________ Feel free to check out my photo's www.facebook.com/saladdodgerphotography Twitter: UKAndyWilliams

Re: Knot strength Chazboi the knot you discribe above sounds very much like a snell which I use, the line has to be tied to the hook before you can tie the other end to the swivel. said to be one of the strongest it's used by commercial longliners. always make sure you pass the small tag through the front of the eye as the hook won't sit right if not. usuall used with circle hooks.

Re: Knot strength yes i know the snell didnt think any 1 would know it and dead right with the way its threaded it has to be aggresive as we say lot of similarity with sea and carp set ups isnt there
