Re: Knot strength

Hi,

The only knot that I use is the 5 turn Grinner, this knot is used for everything.

Re: Knot strength

yep, they sure are neat, tied some using the circle hooks sizes 1o and 2o, much shorter shank, but it worked, found it more difficult/fiddly with 2s and 4s though, will persevere, must get easier the more you do.i hope
practise practise practise. lol

will try some other hook designs as well.

one problem I did encounter was getting the space right between the two hooks, had some with 2" some with 4", again i hope this is my inexperience showing.

kept hooking myself on the hook already tied, when tying on the second one, lol, found a small cork on the point of the 1st hook, sorted that out, simples.

Re: Knot strength

one strange thing with these circle hooks is the angle of the point, almost 90 degrees to the shank, pointng inward toward the bend. dunno if this is how they should be, or whether i have got some duff ones, only using them will prove them right/wrong, very odd to look at, compared to a 'normal' hook.

do like the small micro barb though.

Re: Knot strength

just found this on wiki about circle hooks

quote :In terms of technique, it is important to not strike when the fish bites, but rather just reel in. The act of striking while using a circle hook often results in the hook being pulled out of the fish altogether.

ho-hum in other words a self hooking hook

certainly no good for trolling a flapper
