| casting weight just a small query, when a rod has stamped on it 4oz-8oz, what would be the best casting weight for optimum distance, i'm guessing that its heavier to wind the rod up. I assume i'm right trouble is when you assume something it makes an ASS out of U and ME __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |

| Re: casting weight The optimum is probably 6 oz ,distance is not always longer with heavier weights. Casting distance is all about technique and timing, get that right and distance comes as a by product ,the sinker weight is not too important ,that needs to vary according to the conditions your fishing in (tide/ wind) __________________ Mike.. | Re: casting weight 5 or 6 ounce...i'd plump towards 5oz....its harder to compress the rod (get it to bend) with a lighter lead but the recovery of the rod will "drive" the lead.... good to be able to cast a heavy lead but it won't go as far as a 5oz with a bit of umph behind it. __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |
