Re: squid bait

I,v got to settle for the small 1lb boxes from the tackle shop as i,m to far from the nearest chinese supermarket, fuel and parking costs would make it much the same price as buying the small boxes.
Not keen on ordering that kind of bait over the internet either Mike.

Well i,m lucky on that one as my mate has a sandeel net, last time we went we had about 8000 eel between a few of us still got plenty of those.
I,v seen wing yip truck in Penzance maybe a word with the local takeaway might get a result for a few boxes of squid.

I,m thinking of making up more baits at home and freezing them on the pennel then just use a clip to attach the snood to the trace, got to be a lot less messy.
Chuck the used ones in a bag to sort out at home, that,s the theory anyway would just need to work out roughly how many i would need for a sesh!
What you think?
doesn't freezing the mono cause damage/weakness?
just as sunlight uv does.

Re: squid bait

how do i use squid, hmm

whole on a pennel draw the spine if poss, leave guts in & head on , fold head back down body bind wi laccy , pierce eyes ( the squids) before casting.

slit squid along the body open up , remove head n guts slice body section into 5 long strips, cut strips in half for smaller baits or tipping.
use head n guts to tip a large bait, or on its own(pierce the eyes)
tip small worm baits with 2-3 tenticles lightly hooked @ the thick end.

whole on a pennel slip open body and stuff with whatever other bait ya got
( good to use worm and protect it from titchy fish worrying) , fold head back down body bind wi laccy , pierce eyes before casting.

Re: squid bait

In the winter I like to get larger squid and stuff them full of mussels and worm then tie the bag shut and chuck it onto a 5/0 pennel rig. I then pierce it full of holes with a baiting needle and add the squid head to the hook last. Sure saves messing about trying to tie a load of mussels together on a baiting needle, and also a good place to use the smaller worms, or ones that are looking a little worse for ware.
