2 hook pennel

just how do you thread the bait onto the second hook and up the snood, as it appears in the piccys, do you bait each seperately with worm squid tippets, i can understand large baits, 2 hooks 1 up and 1 down fixed into bait, ie; whole squid/ mackeral.

cannot work out how the worm thing works.

if the 2nd hook is connected to the snood, when you bait the top hook with worm, it can only be threaded up to the eye of the hook, yet all piccys i've looked at show bait above the eye ?

i presume the bottom hook would be baited as a single hook with baiting needle.

confused its an age thing

Re: 2 hook pennel

The way i do it if i got lug is bait the bottom hook in the normal way and i normaly put 5 or 6 worms on thread it up the line make a nice chunky line of worm and i just thread some of the worm on to the top hook and your done

Or if i use a whole squid i will clean it out and fill it with lug really pack them in then i will use the bottom hook to hold the tail end of the squid the push the top hook inside the squid and hook so shank is inside the squid then hold on with bait elastic before you cast stab the squid all over that way the juices leak out but the stronger skin of the squid makes the bait last longer

The second (top) hook of the pennel should slide and not be fixed . Move the top hook out of the way thread on as many worms as you want , then once you have the bait bunched up bring the top hook back down to the bait ,twist the trace around the line 3 times ,and pierce the hook thro the top of the worm bunch. This locks the hook in place and sets the size of the bait ,if you just thread a bit of worm on to the hook ,the top hook is free to move and the bait will move up the line.

An alternative method is to secured the second hook with rubber tube so it slides on the trace ,gets the same result ,just a littl more akward to hook thro the worm bunch.

Keep the size of the bait to around 6 " max as ,any bigger and fish can grab the bait in the centre and not catch either hook...

Boat pennel, but shows the basic idea

You should end up with something like this
