| ref disgorgers This may sound silly, I purchased a disgorger on my last outing, it looks like a 't' bar, but the business end (bit that goes down the throat) has what appears to be a fixed split ovoid ring, with a slight gap, how do these work, always used long nosed pliers generally, but thought if i get a deep hook job, this tool would do the trick, but i cant seem to fathom it out, answers on a postcard please. ![]() __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |

| Re: ref disgorgers Sounds like you got a gemini disgorger..... Principal of a t bar is hard to explain but here goes ......... Attached the t bar to the bend of thehook , let the fishes weight hang on the hook ,with your other hand pull the trace down below the level your holding the fish ,gently shake the fish and its weight should un hook the fish, an cause it to drop off the hook. It doesnt work well with small fish ,as it relies on the fishes weight to dislodge the hook ,also do it close to the ground to protect the fish. __________________ Mike.. | Re: ref disgorgers mrg is there a reason why sea anglers dont use micro barb hooks or barbless ,, deeping hooking flats was a pain always seemd like the barb was more visciouse on a sea hook, i crimp mine a bit now seems easier to get out |

| Re: ref disgorgers I cant think why people dont , personally i use patterns of hooks with small barbs ( like fine wire Aberdeens ) when " scratching " for small fish ,flatties seem to feed vigarously i find and gulp down the hooks ,better to snip the hook off than damage the fish badly __________________ Mike.. | Re: ref disgorgers chris , i have one of those and think its brilliant ! basically the line is held tight - you push the t-bar end ( the oval split ring bit ) through the gap so that it now has the line running through it ... push the t-bar down the line untill you feel the metal of the hook shank . hold the fish tight and push down a further inch keeping the line tight and you will force the hook point out . keep it tight untill the hook is clear of the mouth and the jobs done . the method Mike talks about is for when fish are lip hooked or where the hook is completely visible in the mouth and you can turn the hook and use the weight of the fish against the tbar for leverage . __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: ref disgorgers think i'll bury it at the bottom of box, till i meet someone who can look at it and advise, dont want to damage anything through ignorance. dont have a problem with dogs, its the owners thats the problem. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |
