Tax on goods bought from a non-EU country

If you're ordering or sending goods from a non-EU country to the UK - even as a gift - you may have to pay Customs Duty, Excise Duty and Import VAT.

Please note that where the guidance below refers to 'purchased goods' it makes no difference if the goods are new or used - for example goods bought on an auction site. And it doesn't matter if you buy them for yourself or to sell on.
It does say only if it's over £18 Chris, so am i right in thinking if i keep it under that it's tax free? Would just order a couple of lures at a time if that's the case!

Re: Import Tax!

be up front, do what i did phoned customs explained what it was and value, and asked what duties would be payable should i proceed with the order, they were very helpful, cost me nought, might work with fishing tackle to,
just a phone call put my mind at rest.

mind you it does that anyway, sometimes when i dont want it to lol

I was thinking that Chris just to make sure i,m reading the right info, if it,s correct the lures are about half price of what i,d pay in the UK even adding in postage. I,l post info when i find out. Thanks!
Maybe Chaz will post a report when he gets his purchase from Russia lol!

Just been on the phone to HM Revenue and there is no charge at all if the total value of the goods is under £18 but as of Nov 1st it,s going down to £15

The bloke on the phone did suggest seperate parcels to avoid having to pay tax, they were very helpful like you said Chris. Nice one
