Question Fishing Highs and lows

Fishing Highs and lows - I love fishing as you might have guessed but what are your highs and lows that you have had whilst out fishing

Fishing Highs
1. Peace and quiet time to myself
2. The nature - I have seen some wonderful sites , things that I would have never seen unless I had gone fishing
3. Catching some wonderful fish and returning almost all of them alive ( not a great fish eater )
4. Going fishing with others of which the forum has helped greatly . Its wonderful to meet other anglers for a chat and a fish
5. A bit soft but sitting on a beach fishing and watching the sunset
6. Helping someone get there first fish ever by direct help or through this forum

Fishing Lows
1. The one that got away
2. Litter , just wish people would not leave it . But this is not down to anglers as most of the rubbish is by day trippers or has been throw over the side of some boat
3. Dog poo . Pick it up and take it home !!
4. Miss use of fish . If your not going to eat it then do not kill it PLEASE

The list of thing good and bad could go one and on , but god fishing is tops

So what are your fishing highs and lows ??

Re: Fishing Highs and lows

I think the best thing about fishing is the way it throws people from all walks of life together. People that ordinarily wouldn't chose to be friends, suddenly became as such, because of the common interest. I've only been going fishing a couple of years, but have noticed the general goodwill anglers have towards fellow anglers. It's like riding a motorbike. Suddenly, every other motorcyclist you see on the road, nods or waves.

Take this forum. If you looked at all our backgrounds, we probably wouldn't ordinarily be mates. Put us all in a room not knowing we all liked fishing, I wonder if we'd have much to talk about?

That's the best thing for me. The social aspect.

Worst thing is going out and spending hard earned cash on tackle, bait etc when you don't really knowing if what you are doing is right. I suppose, no matter how experienced you are, you never know everything, but I feel I currently know very little, and probably waste a lot of time and money finding that out the hard way. Things can only get better.

Regards, Darren

Re: Fishing Highs and lows

Hi Fishin'Widow,

Reminds me of the late forties and fifties when we used to spend all of our summer holidays in St Monance. I spent all day from early morning until late evening fishing the breakwater with a hand reel and Limpets or Welks for bait. To own a rod in those days was sheer luxury, next best thing was a bamboo cane which we made our rods from.

If I go on the tears will be rolling down my eyes. Mind you they were all happy memories which we are lucky to have.

Cheers

Re: Fishing Highs and lows

My highs:

Nothing de-stresses me more
The scenery
Breaking a PB
Catching a species not caught before
When float fishing; everytime that float goes under
When a bait clicker screams as a big fish takes out loads of line

My lows

When I tread in dog poo
When a dog eats my bait
When the weather is too rough to go out in
When I'm at home/work or anywhere else that means I'm not sat on that beach or pier fishing.

Re: Fishing Highs and lows

Hi Folks,

Got carried away with that last post!!!

Highs: Being told the night before that the Charter is on.
The Journey out where I meet the others for the day.
The first knock and the rod bending.
Landing the first fish of the day.
Arriving back on shore after an enjoyable day, even without a fish.

Lows: The Charter being called off.
