Re: Angel Shark (Monkfish)

Well i do eat a lot of fish mate so that's my reason for keeping them and some for bait but i try and release as many fish as possible.
I would rather eat fish that are rod and line caught as buy something from the shop which could be on ice for a week or more and killed loads of small fish in the catch process.
I,m going to try and find out from the older club members any info on the Monkfish (yes some of them are still living lol!)

Re: Angel Shark (Monkfish)

Its not that im agianst it, its just some people are greedy, like i dont know if you read Henry Gilbeys blog last week about the Haul of Bass caught that the bloke killed them all. Thing is people even kill ones that u aint getting much meat from. I eat alot of fish but im very fussy on where i get it from. Mackerel yeah il keep for bait alot if i catch one or 2, nether use feathers, i like a fight on a spinner lol, but theres a big Mackerel abundance, its the other species that annoys me, christ even a year or so ago Bass was alot less of that they even banned peopel at the Brittany Ferries port from fishing there as theres a Bass nursery there. Just now i find out that my Fav the beautiful Angel Shark is really low in population, nearly all gone from that news clip u showed me and the funny thing is, stupid net fisherman killed it, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Re: Angel Shark (Monkfish)

Yeah agree on that one mate, only take what you need and not for greed. I had the heaviest conger in our club last year and could have received a nice shiny trophy and certificate for my efforts but i,d rather have the photo and the memory of watching him swim off free to fight another day.

Dont worry about the bass, plenty of them around. I would love to see a proper monkfish wish you well with your quest, really hope you catch one!!!!! The wreck netting boats from france catching big pollack when they shoal up to spawn would be worrying me more than the bass stock.
