Rucksack/Fishing gear!

Hi guys

Hope this is the right place for this!

Decided to weigh my rucksack when i got home after todays sesh climbing up and down a few marks.
Added a few pounds for lost gear/sinkers/bait and drinks consumed and it came to 35lbs. Oh! and no fish to bring home.
I always seem to have way more stuff than i will ever use, think it,s time to lay it all out on the floor and take only what i really need.
Is it just me or do we all overload with gear that is never goin to be used?
What does your rucksack weigh?
Bearing in mind most of my marks are a steep climb and not just parking and walking down a beach.

Steve

Re: Rucksack/Fishing gear!

I will weigh mine next time I head out down the arm!
I go quite light. Just a hndful of weights, Its a good mark as there are loads of fish but I hardly ever loose gear.

Re: Rucksack/Fishing gear!

I have a Shakespeare beat box with a breakaway backrest/harness attached so that's my rucksack I guess! Don't know what it weighs but it's bloody heavy!

Re: Rucksack/Fishing gear!

I think in that situation, I would decide what type of fishing you are going to do, stick to one type, problem is if u are fishing the rough stuff you have to have a fair few weights, unless you float fish?
If I fish a particular beach which is miles from where I can park I take a few sizes of hooks, two lots of weights (four) ususally 3 & 5oz grapple. One reel, one rod,rod rest. Bucket with live black lug, rucksack has a bulit in seat(not much use on rocks possibly) Its the beer that wiegh's so much! , spare trace line, forceps,knife.towel.priest.

On a rough ground mark i carry 3 rods 3 reels +gaff, 2 for bottom fishing and one to float/spin. Only use stuff like old truck wheel studs/nuts for bottom fishing on a rotten bottom which weigh a few ounces usually around 10 of those + a bag of spin/float weights. Mostly heavy kelp/rocks where i,m fishing so do expect to lose a few.
I always try cover as many options as i can on a sesh since most of the marks around here do involve a climb.
Maybe cut down to 2 rods 1 bottom and 1 spin/float.
