Re: Best Rods Available for the Money! Opinions?

What rings are on your mates rod? I've had problems with the alconites on my rods and am having them changed over to BNHGs as they shatter, seems to be bloody frequently. Currently I've got a 50/50 mix of the two and so far all of the BNHGs have been fine.

BNHG`s are the best all round ring , tough & durable ,Alconites are great in an ideal world and look much prettier than they are practical i think.

Re: Best Rods Available for the Money! Opinions?

would have to agree with BNHG's .. I think the Supercasts ones main downfalls - atleast as far as we can see is they look very fragile and only seem to have a single seat connecting them to the blank !
Perhaps Daiwa have the types listed...

Re: Best Rods Available for the Money! Opinions?

I find that the Alconite liners shatter for a pass time, not ideal when you are fishing some of the low water reefs that I fish - windy and unstable footing for the tripod has caused me problems in the past.

I think the best rods for the money are the Shakespeare Salt MXs. I got one last year for £40 from glasgow angling centre. I liked it that much I sold my Daiwa Sandstorm and brought another one. They sit well in wind and tide compared to the sandstorm. They are a little heavier but apart from that I would say they are a better rod. I think you can still get them for £40. rrp is about £100. Bargin!
I also go the Salt Bass rod as the MXs are a little heavy to hold all day. This cost £60 but its so light and easy to cast, again worth evey penny.

I've just bought 2 SALT MX's and the quality is staggering for the price. £40 each from GAC. Came with coasters and a reducer. I've just got back from a quick practice down the sports field and they can blast a lead pretty far from an OTG cast (well by my standards anyway). I didn't like the look of the coasters that were supplied so I bought Imax reel seats which are brilliant, especially at £5 each. I just can't afford a Zippy

Nice one Rob. They are worth a lot more than £40. Im made up with mine. I use a penn talon with one, seems to do the trick!

I believe that the Rovex rods are made in the same factory as the Sonics and I was told they use the same blanks but how true that is I dont know.
Every tackle shop I talked to while researching the rovex bigboss rods told me that they are built using sonik blanks, they are very nice rods too use and not too bad to look at either. Lol. Im very happy with them. What spinning rod of theirs have you got? I was thinking about getting the rovex plugger as I reciently snapped my spinning rod mid cast. It was rated 1~3 oz but with all the abuse its had over the past 4 yrs it gave up the ghoswhen I tryed to cast a dexter and feathers at some mackerel. I have an old spinning rod that I can still use for the mackerel but would like to get a rod that I can try out a lighter approach for the bass, i.e. surface poppers and such. Having never tryed this style of fishing im having trouble deciding which rod too buy

Re: Best Rods Available for the Money! Opinions?

It's the "Lure Pro 9'" (25 - 50g casting weight) although they do an 8 and a 10 foot model too I believe. Excellent rod! I've not cought anything big on it yet but cant wait to hook in a bass on it.
I've used it with plugs and wedges and it casts well with my baitrunner and 12lb line. Had great fun using it to catch mackeral from the chesil.
Check out Veals website, they stock them at a very reasonable price and they seem to rate them highly too.

Re: Best Rods Available for the Money! Opinions?

Rovex "Big Boss" 4-6oz for £90 is a very good 3 piece beachcaster, same as the big name rods but for a bargain price. Nice and light, flexible and just a real nice feeling rod.
