| anchor lamps (cp350) not sure where to start with these its one problem after another with my anchor lamp, id guess its more than likely me that's the problem, i can take it out and use it fine one trip then come the next trip use it in exactly the same way and end up with it catching on fire, and ending up with me fishing by head torch all night, firstly il go in to how i fire her up and use her and see if anybody can shed light on to whats going wrong or more to the point what im doing right? firstly fill the small tray up with meths, ignite and let it burn out, while its heating up it prime it to 1 on the pressure gauge and as the mantle is glowing white and the meths has almost all burned out turn the red paraffin regulator dial from the off position (arrow pointing up) to on (arrow pointing down) now sometimes this works fine and she lights up no worries then just pump it up to 2 on the pressure gauge and maintain that pressure all night! i never fill it up more than half and have replaced the needle. the next time i come to use i set it up the exact same way and it just well the only way i can describe it is over fuels? almost like the regulator is buggered? no matter what i can do it wont light then when i take it apart to replace mantle the needle has always bent up and half the size? sorry i know this is a bit of poorly described write up i can get pics up if needed! any advise would be greatly received! |

| Re: anchor lamps (cp350) Sounds like a nightmare ,i have and used to use a coleman ,and that had a mind of its own tooand with modern LED headlamps pumping out 300+ lumens with tiny battery packs i`d be binning the troublesome lil anchor , and giving myself less stress and much less to lug around , my coleman is gathering dust in the corner of the shed and will be for many years to come . On a more of a fix it note , if the needle is bending ,sounds like you have an overheat problem, is the vapourising screw clear ?....pop some piccies on lets have a gander __________________ Mike.. | Re: anchor lamps (cp350) oh yes is clear the needle pokes through fine!! right just replicated the starting procedure the same as i did yesterday and she starts up fine????? i guarantee the next time i go down the beach it will be a pain in the ass, oh well i guess im going to have to live with it i guess i might try a bit less pressure on the initial start up next time maybe 4-5 pumps instead of 15 then build it up slowly?? i may even film my self doing the start up procedure ans see if anybody can offer any tips or tell me what im doing wrong? |

![]() I have a colemans unleaded and think using the old anchor lamps is a step backwards into a bygone era lol .. headlights are fine but they dont keep you warm in the winter get yourself a colemans powerhouse twin mantle - ive never had a single problem with mine ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: anchor lamps (cp350) I personaly don`t bother with any of the fuel powered lamps at all and just stick to a headlamp and a spare set of batterys. I used to get so annoyed to arrive at the beach and find a mantel had broke, or the bloody thing wouldn`t light properly and errupt into a ball of flames, or get your hands all covered in petrol (which i thinkthe fish can smell on your hands when you touch the bait) I used to use the coleman north star but I actually find it less stressful to just put a lamp on my head, that way i got light where i need it all of the time and then once out in the water i simply switch it off and sit in the dark, which if you fish places that are not lit up at night then makes it more natural conditions, In the depth of winter i will simply take along a few BBQ bricks and a tin tray and they will keep me nice n warm all night long. | hi all new member here and mad keen fisherman, noticed this one and thought I might put in some contribution...I have used an Anchor beach light for over 20 years ( hows that for loyalty ) I gave it to my m8 and he just never used it so I got it back anyway I never once used the meths burner at all what I did when using it was pump up the pressure and when it was high I pulled the red lever down on the side of the unit and stuck a lighted match into the hole, once the mantle was burning I adjusted the flame and closed the lever back to the up position again re pumped the pressure back up adjusted the flame and hey presto no problems for over 20 years, the lamp itself looks a little sad for itself now and I am going to replace the glass, the needles, mantle and the chrome dome ,give a good service and start the next 20 years hope this is in some way helpful James |
