Fish ID Book recomendations Hi Folks Can anyone reconmmend a good book which shows the different species of sea fish, especially the mini species. The Internet is a pain as you search forever to find something that looks exactly like yours doesn't. My latest Goby could well be a blenny & god knows what this is. any clues on this fellow? ![]() ![]() Thanks to those who identified my sand smelt - something I'd never heard of. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: Fish ID Book recomendations To be honest when ID'ing mini species you do have to take very clear pics and multiples of them of different points such as the mouth, gills, tail and fins to help you ID it later. I use the same book as Zonkers and it is the best book I have bought by a million miles for fish ID: Collins Pocket Guide. Fish of Britain and Europe, by Peter J Miller and Michael J Loates. ISBN 0-00-219945-9 As Zonkers says it is no longer in print. I was lucky enough to get one of the last ones printed. I had a quick look on Amazon and there 8 used ones available in the the world, ranging from £8 to $1800. If I were you I would grab the £8 now, you never know it may be worth a fortune soon. I have been offered £300 for my copy and there is no way I would consider selling it. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk

I use another Collins guidebook: Collins Guide to the Sea Fishes of Britain & North Western Europe by Bent J Muus & Preben Dahlstrom All the Collins guidebooks are very good, but getting quite hard to obtain these days. I sourced a second hand copy on Amazon for around a tenner. I've seen copies of these books change hands for up to £80 though. ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...
