Shock Leader

All of my fishing has been pretty much in east anglia which on the whole has pretty clean beaches and i used the tapered shock leaders but now living in south devon the beaches here are a different animal , so would it be best to have a 60lb shockleader right through or would tapered ones still be the way to go , i will be using a 20lb main line and most tapered leaders go down to about 16lb i think

Andy

Re: Shock Leader

I`d stick to plain leaders Andy ,works out a lot cheaper too, just stick to 10x the weight of the lead for the breaking strain and you cant go wrong....

Re: Shock Leader

Hi Andy.

Why are you using 20lb line? I use 15lb for all beach work and 30lb for the rocks.
To me 20lb doesn't make sense. You lose distance and have more chance of the tide pulling out your lead with the larger diameter line, and 20lb will snap of almost as easily as 15lb.
MRG is spot on with the shock leader.

Was able to get 3 x 665 mtr spools of 20lb daiwa sensor for a fiver a spool still in wrapping , that made perfect sense to me
Surely the distance difference between 15lb and 20lb is not that great there aint much in the line diameters

3 spools for a fiver....BARGAIN !!!!!!!!! I've just bought 18lb Sensor orange @ 7 quid a spool and that was cheap.....

PP is quite right ,line dia can cause extra drag in the tide, the differance in dia between 15lb & 20lb sensor is .065 mm, which wont make the world of diferance really .

Line colour in very clear water ,can make a differance , for bass , mullet etc .

The water here in the Bristol channel is like brown soup, so not as important ,the orange just the line is a bit more visable. You can get clear sensor also, that might make a differance in the clear water.
