..I remove the bearings and leave them to soak in some unleaded petrol ( not too much at these prices )....leave them to dry on some blue roll .. Then i add the rocket fuel to a teaspoon with the bearings on and heat the back of the spoon with a lighter .. this ensures the oil pentrates the bearing 100% - i must have had these 7hts some 15 years now ![]() ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Reel Tuning Good tip, using a tea spoon like that. One thing I havnt done yet is grease the drag on my slosh. I read somewhere it has to be teflon grease, what do you use? I got some ultra high performance synthetic grease for the gears. I got it off an engineer at work, he said it would be ideal for the gears. Its meant for a westfalia oily water seperator! J |

| Re: Reel Tuning do the same.....when the wife is watching "car crash tv" I make a right old mess on the coffee table. I don't use unleaded petrol mind...i use lighter fluid as its in a keepable container. On this point unleaded petrol or lighter fuel doesn't clean the bearings. i was under the impression it did but by all accounts all it does is de-grease the bearing for fresh oil to be applied. any horrible buildup in the bearings will stay there.....mind you at £5 or £6 for bearings it may be an option to replace them every 12-18 months. john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |

| Re: Reel Tuning Soaking the bearings in acetone ,will disolve any build up of debris and oil deposits. Its a a nasty liquid and should be used with care,in a well ventilated space,it boils at a low temp and will evaporate after a hour or so at room temp. Methelated spirits is less agresive, and evaporates slower. __________________ Mike.. Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but time Mike`s Fishing Photo Gallery |

Just wondering if you have greased the drag in you slosh and if so what grease you use. I read in the instructions that it should be a teflon based grease. Not sure how important it is to use that grease so I havnt touched mine yet. Also not sure if you see it or not but the link I posted for mikes reel repair has every reel schematic going. Very handy. Thanks for your help. All the best. J |
