Very windy Severn Beach today Just got back from Severn Beach where myself and two other demented souls were fishing. Very rough tide, very windy. Was wondering - i was using a one hook pulley pennel but was tied up in knots every time so switched to running leger and caught two tiddlers (see my album). I am sure you guys who are used to stormy beaches do it differently. Any tips? Second problem -my casting is shite so am only managing 60 meters max. I tend to hold back with the power as I always get a snap off if I use more. How long does a mono line last as I get the feeling the longer I use it the more this happens.

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today Yes I am clipping down the rig when casting. I,m using 20lb mono, 60lb shock as the Bristol channel tide is pretty tough. The mono is about four months old, fish every week at least once so I reckon the sell by date is getting close or maybe over.

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today Can`t see ,why your snapping off ,all the gear sounds spot on ,mono should last 6 months +...casting lessons maybe ???? __________________ Mike.. Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but time Mike`s Fishing Photo Gallery

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today I am seriously thinking casting lessons may be the way forward!! Do not need to cast 200yrds like some but 100yrds would be an pretty useful!

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today Nice one on the cod didge. I find that by scaling down the grip lead to a 3oz or 4oz (rather than a 5oz or 6oz) I am confident in giving it more welly and can achieve greater distance with much less risk of a snap-off. What length rod are you using? __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today Hi, mate Use a 13FT Schimano Vengeance. Seems agood all rounder. Beach looked a little bit different to your last visit. Wind was hurtling down the beach today. Managed five hours of fishing. Cream crackered now though!

Re: Very windy Severn Beach today It may be an unqualified statement but I'm not sure that trying to hoy it to the Wales is that much of an advantage down there. I'm sure more experienced guys may correct me though. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.
