Sandspike or tripod for third rod?

I've decided to start using a third rod where I can and want to know your opinions on "sand spike" type rests as I've never used one myself. I'm considering one of those rather than going to the trouble of carting around an extra tripod set up as I'm assuming the sandspike would be e tad lighter and should drop into my quivwer without too much hassle, thoughts gentlemen please.

Ian Golds tripod ,comes standard as a 2 rod tripod ,but you can buy the single cup and top bracket ,to convert it to a 3 rod rest ......cover lots of ground ,one left ,one right and one straight out in front ....

The ones that stick out sideways lee ????....... If you drill the tripod the 3 rd rod sits dead centre up the spine of the rest ....

Yes mike , i know which ones you are on about and tend to think there better , alough it still gets in the way of fishing comfortably with the other 2 rods

I think 3 rods is madness ,it can be bad enough with 2 ,but ,everyone to their own ideas ....might work if you can get used to it ,and run around like a looney .Wouldn`t like to try 3 on a windy day ...

Re: Sandspike or tripod for third rod?

Yeh i tend to agree with you , can be bad enough with 2 when fishing is busy , i only tend to use a third rod for bass fishing in close , and sometimes even that can be a pain

Re: Sandspike or tripod for third rod?

Would'nt want to fish three rods on the Bristol channel. It's hard enough chasing the tide in & out with two rods.

Thats very kind of you cuckoo but I have one of those too and you and I share the same opinion on those things! Really the extra head needs to be in line with the others and needs to have more distance from the others too in order to get a more managable angle on the rod, as you say the third rod ends up getting in the way of the others.

Thanks again though.

Nick

It's for when I fish the south coast mainly and 1 or 2 easy BC high water marks.
